The gentleman is so used to wearing the plastic shield that he did not notice he still had it on as he attempted to extinguish the three candles on top of the bright blue cake.

A relative noticed the problem and removed the face shield from Mr Perez.

Freed from the visor, Mr Perez raised himself to his full height and took a deep breath before blowing out the candles.

The video was posted online by his grand daughter Valerie Gomez, who is a tax coordinator and the owner of Laffittee Bakery in Florida.

She said: ‘He laughed when he realised he was still wearing his mask and obviously everyone at the same time reminded him he was wearing it.’
