A Quiet Place spin-off is happening with Jeff Nichols writing and directing

While fans still have several months to wait until the delayed sequel A Quiet Place II hits theaters, another project set in this silent world is happening.

Paramount Pictures is putting together an untitled spin-off movie with Jeff Nichols (Mud, Midnight Special) set to write and direct, per The Hollywood Reporter

John Krasinski, who co-wrote and directed 2018’s A Quiet Place and wrote and directed the sequel, came up with the story for this untitled spin-off.

While no story details were given, this project will be connected somehow to the first movie.

Krasinski will produce alongside Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller, who all produced the first two movies.

There is no indication yet as to when production may begin on the untitled spin-off to A Quiet Place.

A Quiet Place was released in the spring of 2018 and became a surprise hit at the box office.

The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world were alien creatures hunt humans by sound, starred John Krasinski and Emily Blunt as Lee and Evelyn Abbott, with Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe playing their kids Reagan and Marcus.

The movie took in an impressive $188 million at the domestic box office, and $340.9 million worldwide, from just a $17 million budget.

Paramount quickly got to work on the sequel, A Quiet Place II, with Krasinski returning to write, direct and star with Blunt, Simmonds and Jupe.

They are joined by a number of new cast members including Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou and Lauren-Ashley Cristiano.

The sequel was originally slated to hit theaters on March 20, though it was pushed to April 23, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jeff Nichols made his directorial debut with 2007’s Shotgun Stories, which he followed up with the critically-acclaimed Take Shelter and Mud in 2011 and 2013.

He has also directed Midnight Special and Loving, which both debuted in 2016.

All of his films to date have featured actor Michael Shannon in some capacity, so it’s possible he could be a new addition to the A Quiet Place family.
