The evening will also see David Tennant and Michael Sheen join forces once again for a special edition of their hit comedy series, Staged.

This year’s event tagline , ‘Funny is power’, was revealed in the launch video last week featuring celebrities talking about times in their lives that laughter has helped them get through.

Benedict Cumberbatch said in the video: ‘I think laughter is a panacea, it is and has always been a national medicine.

‘I think people reached out for it in lockdown. It was a comedy rather than a tragedy that people first went for.’

Dame Judi Dench admitted: ‘I have got myself into trouble more times than I can tell you by laughing in very serious moments.’

Alesha Dixon, David Tennant, Davina McCall, Paddy McGuinness and Sir Lenny Henry will present the show which marks the 35th year in Comic Relief’s history.
