Abigail Breslin’s father Michael, 78, dies of COVID-19: ‘I’m in shock and devastation’

 Abigail Breslin shared a heartbreaking tribute to her father Michael on Saturday after he died from COVID-19. 

In a heart-wrenching Instagram post, the 24-year-old actress announced the devastating news, alongside photos of her dad, who died age 78, throughout his life.

‘Oh wow. Hard to write this. Harder than I thought. I’m in shock and devastation,’ began the Oscar nominee in her lengthy tribute.

She continued: ‘At 6:32 PM EST , my sweet, perfect, amazing, heroic, wonderful dada passed away after my family and I said goodbye.’  

‘It was COVID-19 that cut my sweet daddy’s life too short,’ she added. ‘I appreciate more than you know, the love and support my family and I have received.’ 

As Breslin mourned her father, she told her 527,000 followers she wanted to remember him ‘for who he was.’

‘My dad was a hilarious, boisterous, tenacious, rebellious, intelligent, sweet, incredible human being. He loved life. He loved his family. He loved the simple things,’ the Scream Queens alum wrote of the telecommunications expert, consultant and computer programmer. 

She went on to gush over his love of ‘a cup of coffee (black, heated up for 66 seconds),’ BBQ’ing and Bryeyer’s ice cream.

‘He loved dogs and cats and all animals and he especially loved hearing funny stories about my pets in particular,’ Breslin’ remarked, noting she inherited being an ‘animal lover’ from him.

‘He loved taking pictures and flying planes and good dinners and music from the 50’s and 60’s and good couches and Kenyan mountain coffee and funny YouTube videos and email threads and weird poems and politics and he loved me and he loved my brothers and he loved my mom,’ she concluded. 

Her’ brothers Ryan and Spencer, who are also actors, penned their own  eulogies over social media. 

‘How do you say goodbye to your father?’ Spencer asked. ‘I love this man that helped bring me into this world and raised me and loved my mother and my two amazing siblings. Death is the one thing we all have in common, but never expect. Love you, Dad. Forever and ever.’ 

Meanwhile Ryan wrote about his dad’s upbringing, time in the Air Force and overcoming ‘plenty of hardships and obstacles in his life.’

Ryan continued: ‘He always set an unparalleled example of will, determination’ and was a champion of the people he loved.’  

Earlier this month, Abigail plea with her fans to take the COVID-19 pandemic seriously and just ‘wear your d*mn masks.’ 

While chronicling her dad’s battle with the relentless Coronavirus, she asked for ‘prayers and positivity’ as he fought for his life on a ventilator.  

Taking to Instagram, the Little Miss Sunshine star aired her grievances with those who continue to flout the mask-wearing mandate, as she tried to shed light on the severity of the situation, noting that her dad was ‘not conscious.’

‘This is me saying that if you asked my dad: a mask is FAR LESS uncomfortable than a ventilator. So stfu. And wear your d*mn mask. Please. No one should go thru this,’ she wrote in an Instagram post. 

She continued to engage with concerned fans on Twitter as they checked in on her and asked for updates. 

One user wrote: ‘Just seeing how your dad is doing. Hope he’s doing better,’ to which she responded ‘thank u! Not too much to update you on but we are more hopeful each and every day. Thank you for checking.’

She first announced her father was ‘not conscious’ with a tweet and said she still calls to talk to him. 

‘I’m so used to talking to dad multiple times a day. I still call and talk to him thanks to INCREDIBLE nurses who work so hard and make sure he can hear me, even tho he’s not conscious. Can’t wait to hear his voice again. I love you dada,’ she wrote on Twitter, earlier this onth.    

The star first shared the news of her father’s battle on February 10, with a post that read:  

‘Hi guys. Unfortunately, this post isn’t one I ever thought I would have to make. I’m asking for prayers and positivity sent this way for my daddy, Michael who tested positive for COVID-19 and this morning had to be placed on a ventilator.
