Actor Bobby Cannavale reveals the one thing he STILL doesn’t understand about Australian culture

Rose Byrne’s actor partner Bobby Cannavale reveals the one thing he STILL doesn’t understand about Australian culture

US actor Bobby Cannavale has been in a relationship with Australian actress Rose Byrne since 2012.

Despite being based in New York, the Ant-Man star, 50, has made the trip Down Under numerous times in the past decade.

While Bobby has embraced being barefoot, the ‘laid-back vibe’ of Aussies, and has conquered driving on the left-hand side of the road, he says there is still one major part of Australian culture he’s yet to fully understand.

‘I don’t know how that’s possible?!’ Rose Byrne’s actor partner Bobby Cannavale (both pictured in 2020) reveals the one thing he STILL doesn’t understand about Australian culture

Speaking to News.com.au on Wednesday, Bobby revealed he is constantly puzzled by the ‘real drinking culture’ prevalent in Australia.

‘I find myself getting on the drink earlier in the day in Australia than I would anywhere else in the world. You walk past a pub at three o’clock and you go “really? Is the work day over at three o’clock in this country?”‘ he joked.

‘The bars are packed at three o’clock and I don’t know how that’s possible,’ The two-time Emmy-winning star added.

Bobby said his recent working trip to New South Wales’ Byron Bay was the epitome of the ‘laid-back’ beach culture stereotype Australia is renowned for.

The couple recently traveled to Australia in 2020 so that Bobby could film his Hulu limited series Nine Perfect Strangers.

The Byron Bay-shot series is produced by Nicole Kidman, and stars a host of other A-listers, including Melissa McCarthy.

Filming began on August 10 and ran for 19 weeks.

Rose, 41, subsequently returned to the United States and began shooting scenes for the Apple TV+ dramedy Physical in Los Angeles in early 2021.

The longterm couple are not married, but both often refer to one another as ‘husband’ and ‘wife’.

Last year during an interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden, Bobby explained: ‘I haven’t found a better word for it, to be honest. Boyfriend/girlfriend feels too young, partner feels too clinical… You know, my “lady partner”? That feels weird. So it’s just easier. People don’t ask questions when you say, “It’s my wife”.’

They share sons Rafa, two, and Rocco, four.
