AFL legend Neale Daniher’s daughter Rebecca announces she’s expecting her first child

AFL legend Neale Daniher’s daughter Rebecca has announced she is expecting her first child with husband Drew Howell.

Rebecca confirmed the news on Sunday, and revealed she is due to give birth in November.

She told the Herald Sun sharing the exciting news with her family was a very ‘special moment’.

‘I absolutely loved telling [Neale Daniher] the news,’ she said.

Rebecca continued: ‘When dad was diagnosed back in 2013 and was told 27 months was the average lifespan, I did not think he would walk me down the aisle.’

‘I had him there by my side which was beautiful, and now I am going to have a little one coming into the world and I can’t wait to put bubs in his lap and see him smiling down at his grandchild.’

Neale currently has two grandkids, a grandson named Cooper, and a granddaughter named Rosie.

Neale, who is the former Essendon captain and Melbourne coach, was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2014.

MND is a condition which affects the nerve cells (neurons), causing weakness in the muscles that gets worse and eventually leads to paralysis, Health Direct says.

The doctors informed the family they would have about 27 months before the disease took his life, but they were determined to fight.

Following his diagnosis, he launched a fundraiser, Fight MND, to help find a cure for the disease.

In 2019, Rebecca told The Today Show: ‘It’s difficult to watch dad fight the beast. It’s a terrible illness. Things are getting more and more difficult.’
