Allison Janney says Mom producers were surprised to learn she’d ALWAYS been wearing a wig

Allison Janney says Mom producers were shocked to learn the star had been wearing a wig for the entire run of the show when she first revealed her short, silver locks to the team.

The actress, who recently ditched her long, fake tresses for her natural hair, said she surprised her longtime co-workers when she turned up to set to shoot the sitcom’s eighth and final season with her new ‘do.

Talking to Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night, the 61-year-old star said: ‘The producers see me like this and they’re like, “What have you done?! How are we gonna do…?  You should have asked us before you did this to your hair?!”‘

The real me! Allison Janney revealed how her Mom producer had no clue she’d been wearing a wig since day one of the show when she debuted her short, new locks to the team while shooting the eight and final season

‘And I’m like, “Guys, I’ve been wearing a wig since season 1, but nobody knew it.” So, everybody in the world knows about it now.’

Allison also revealed a few mementos she plucked from set, saying she took home her Mom wig and some choice pairs of sweatpants, saying her character Bonnie ‘loved to be comfortable as does Allison Janney.’

The West Wing favorite talked about how liberating it was to wear her hair naturally while appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show earlier this month.

After Drew complimented Allison on her ‘stunning’ tresses, Janney said: ‘I cannot tell you how amazing it is to feel free. Free from hair color and hair extensions and hair tape and blah blah blah.’

‘It’s heaven,’ Allison, who looked radiant with soft pink jacket slung over her shoulders, went on. ‘I am enjoying this new chapter in my hairdo world.’

Barrymore asked Janney if she suffered any awkward hair moments before the chop, wondering: ‘Have you ever had a man like drag his hand through your hair and hit an extension? That’s a real moment.’

The West Wing favorite could definitely relate, confessing: ‘Drew, one time I was flirting with this guy, I was walking down the street in NY just putting my hands in my hair and two extensions came out and I just was dropping them on the ground.

Allison also touched on her decision not to get married or have a family, telling Drew why it was the right choice for her.

‘I think if I would have found the right guy at the right time who wanted to have kids I probably would have with the right partner,’ she explained.

‘Because I wasn’t ever really confident that I wanted to have kids and I would rather regret not having kids than have kids and regret that.’
