An hour earlier, Anna had posted, ‘FYI (for those unaware) June is LGBTQIA+ pride month. So the folks who put their bigotry on display in the comment sections of my recent posts why don’t you hit that unfollow button right now.’

In 2012, the Oscar winner told Zooey magazine that her sexual orientation was a ‘minor biographical detail,’ but that she felt compelled to speak out for LGBT rights.

‘For a bisexual, it’s not about gender. That’s not the deciding factor for who they’re attracted to.’

In 2019 she told The Guardian that that misunderstanding around her situation is fairly common because she is married.

She said: ‘People understand the version of the world they live in, and if it’s outside their experience, then sometimes it frightens people, or they just don’t get it. And that’s fine.’

Anna received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11 for her work in the 1993 film The Piano.
