A British pub has been dismantled and moved to Germany to introduce the locals to a traditional English boozer.

The New Crown’s lock, stock and beer barrels have been transferred from Bridlington, east Yorkshire, to Iserlohn, near the German city of Dortmund, where it is being rebuilt piece by piece.

English, German and Irish beer will be served at the establishment alongside English breakfasts, Sunday roasts and traditional fish and chips.

During the process, the bar equipment and fittings were purchased by property developer Paul Moss, who lived in Germany for 25 years and had a vision of relocating the pub. Above, The Crown's old location in Bridlington

‘Bars over here are modern and clean cut. I missed the atmosphere of an English pub. But there could be no half measures,’ Mr Moss told The Sun

‘We took everything — even dirty glasses. Now we’re almost there.

‘The last thing will be the old front doors.’

Work began rebuilding the pub after the first German lockdown ended in July and is hoping to open to customers after the country’s second lockdown ends.

Speaking with the Bridlington Free Press, Mr Moss said: ‘Iserholm is about half an hour from Dortmund in the Ruhr Valley. We have had lots of positive feedback on Facebook about the pub, both from locals and British people, as they followed our progress.

‘We were due to open soon but due to a lockdown, similar to England, we have not been able to welcome the public yet.

‘The lockdown restrictions run until the beginning of December and we hope to open after the restrictions are lifted.’
