Celeb Spellcheck makes a mysterious return with a new and almost identical profile on Instagram… just a month after the original page was shut down

Exactly a month after viral Instagram page Celeb Spellcheck was shut down, a new, almost identical page has started up.

The copycat page, also called Celeb Spellcheck, features two underscores between its name as opposed to one.

It also features a zoomed in version of the original page’s profile picture: Judge Judy making a ‘loser’ gesture with her hand on her forehead.

While it’s not known exactly when the copycat account started, it’s already accumulated over 40,000 followers.

Among the followers are local celebrities including Today’s entertainment reporter Brooke Boney, Married At First Sight’s Booka Nile and Alana Lister, and former Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield.

In their bio, they advertise that ‘DM’s open’, encouraging their followers to send in any tips.

Celeb Spellcheck began a few years ago as an account making fun of poor spelling on sponsored Instagram posts.

It has since become a platform for holding influencers to account for their lies and irresponsible behaviour.

But the account attracted criticism in recent months, with the likes of Skye Wheatley and Tayla Damir accusing the page of ‘bullying’ them by correcting their spelling.

The admin has denied bullying the influencers she features, saying: ‘This page is meant to be lighthearted and fun. I have definitely posted things in the past that I’m not proud of, but I do try to never cross the line.’

The page’s administrator, a Melbourne woman in her late 20s, announced she was shutting down the account on April 11.

‘After weighing up many options, the time has come for me to say goodbye to Celeb Spellcheck,’ the user wrote.

‘This account has become too big, too powerful and too time consuming for me to enjoy running it anymore.’

The page, which shares user-submitted gossip and mocks D-list celebrities for their typographical errors, went on say the farewell was by choice.

‘There is no scandalous reason behind this decision – I’m not being threatened, sued or controlled in any way,’ they wrote.
