‘We’re still pushing this one out,’ Theron said of The Old Guard, indicating it’s too early for sequel talk for now, though she added everyone wants to make a sequel.

‘Let’s have a little resting period, but just given the fact that all of us really want to do it, I’m sure when it’s the right time, we’ll start the conversation,’ she added.

There is no word yet if her director, Gina Prince-Blythewood, or writer Greg Rucka, who adapted the script based on his own comic, will return for the follow-up.

Netflix recently revealed that the film will have been watched by a whopping 72 million households in its first four weeks, which Theron found astounding.

‘It’s pretty nutty, right? It’s pretty crazy,’ Theron added, though she insisted that she wasn’t thinking about how big the audience could be while making the film.

‘I’m not that brave,’ she added with a laugh. ‘I don’t want to hear predictions. No, thank you.’

She also revealed that she was sent the graphic novel the film is based on, written by Greg Rucka with illustrations by Leandro Fernandez, while she was filming Bombshell.

‘We were about three weeks into shooting Bombshell, and I remember vividly we were sitting at video village, watching a scene, Jay (Roach) directing, and I got this graphic novel,’ she began.

‘I opened it up and I read like four pages and I was like, “Whoa, this is really interesting,’ she said, adding she was ‘looking for something in the sci-fi world.’

She added that there was a ‘real emotional story behind it that I think we all really responded to,’ leading to her signing on.
