Coldplay are ‘set to release a new album for the first time in TWO YEARS titled Music Of The Spheres’ after ‘legal wrangle over its official name’

Coldplay are reportedly set to release a new album for the first time in two years titled Music Of The Spheres in the near future.

It has been claimed that the band – which consists of members Chris Martin, Jon Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion – have been recording music throughout lockdown which will feature on the new release.

According to reports back in February, the band registered to trademark the name of their ninth album, ahead of making an official announcement.

And official documents now show the band have formally applied to use the name on recorded music, merchandise, clothing and printed materials in the US, according to The Sun

But paperwork in the US reportedly shows the four band mates are currently stuck in a legal dispute with officials over the use of the branding.

According to the publication, records show the application was initially declined, but is now ‘suspended’ until a patent is secured in the UK.

But this patent is reportedly imminent as The Sun reports their claim to the name was published by the Intellectual Property Office a few weeks ago.

A representative for Coldplay has been contacted by MailOnline for a comment.

The band dropped hints in 2018 that their next album might be called Music Of The Spheres.

In the pages of a book accompanying a vinyl version of their eighth album Everyday Life, the words ‘Music Of The Spheres’ are written on one of the pages with ‘Coldplay, coming soon’ printed beneath in small lettering.

An image next to the Music Of The Spheres logo contains nine symbols, each representing an album, with the ninth being the next to be released.

Last month a source speaking to The Sun claimed: ‘Chris and Co have been dropping hints for a while but now it’s finally getting off the ground.

‘They’ve been busy working on new music during lockdown and it’ll all culminate in the record, which has the working title Music Of The Spheres.

‘Chris and the group have now officially trademarked the name ready for an album. It also includes merchandise and everything they’d need for a tour.’

Coldplay’s representatives declined to comment when approached by MailOnline.

Coldplay are set to perform at a scaled down virtual Glastonbury music festival on May 22nd.

The festival’s 50th anniversary extravaganza, originally scheduled for 2020, has been cancelled for the second consecutive year amid health and safety concerns regarding the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Speaking to Radio 2 presenter Dermot O’Leary last week, Emily Eavis revealed they will be replacing the main event with a five hour special filled with a roster of guests, to be held at Somerset’s Worthy Farm and available to stream at just £20 a ticket.

The livestream event will also give festival regulars an opportunity to revisit some of the venue’s popular landmarks, among them its legendary stone circle.

Emily said: She added: ‘Essentially we have got incredible bands like Coldplay, Damon Albarn, Idles, Michael Kiwanuka, Jorja Smith and lots and lots of very special guests along the way.’

Coldplay later confirmed their participation in a tweet shared with their 23million Twitter followers, describing the event as a ‘five hour magical mystery.’
