Dami Im reveals the ‘inappropriate question’ a journalist once asked her that’s left her ‘frustrated and angry’ for SEVEN years… and why she’s finally decided to address it now

Singer Dami Im lashed out at pregnancy rumours made in gossip magazine New Idea back in 2013, in a lengthy Instagram post in December.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph’s Stellar magazine this weekend, The X Factor Australia 2013 winner, revealed why she addressed the reports seven years later.

The 32-year-old, who wed boyfriend Noah Kim in 2012, said that the line of questioning to do with baby plans ‘frustrated’ her for a long time.

Speaking out: Singer Dami Im (pictured), 32, revealed to The Daily Telegraph’s Stellar magazine this weekend, why she addressed ‘frustrating’ pregnancy rumours made by New Idea magazine back in 2013, seven years later

‘It’s such an inappropriate question [to ask about baby plans]. I was only 24, just getting started. I wasn’t this girl who was dreaming of having this perfect family,’ Dami told Stellar.

‘I felt like that’s how people saw me because I had a husband and I was this nice, smiling Asian chick,’ she continued.

Dami went on to reveal how the magazine article ‘frustrated’ her for ‘a long time’ and refrained from addressing it for seven years as she ‘didn’t want the word pregnancy to follow’ her around.

‘It’s important for me to acknowledge it so I can move past that frustration and anger I was stuck with,’ she said.

The Korean-born star also recalled having received messages from women on Instagram, who have also been asked whether they plan on having children.

In December, Dami shared a photo of the article and a partial cover shot to her Instagram, and said she ‘still feels upset looking at it’.

‘No I wasn’t pregnant in 2013 and no, I’m not pregnant now,’ she wrote.

‘You might wonder why I’m bringing this up now after so many years. I so wish I could have said something back then. I was naïve and didn’t know that my words could be twisted like this.’

At the time of the interview, Dami said she had been ‘an aspiring artist full of ambition, on the verge of a major breakthrough on national TV’ and the workload was ‘stressful and relentless’.

She continued: ‘When the attention was on me I had to do so many interviews but I didn’t know how they worked. I was naive and didn’t know that my words could be twisted like this.’
