The Capital Breakfast presenter, 27, was given the golden ticket by the judges, meaning he sailed through to next week’s show.

Ronan explained to listeners: ‘Sonny Jay got the golden ticket which means he’s exempt from the vote from this week, so you went straight through, no one needed to vote last night!

Delighted with his success, Sonny replied: ‘I know and I had so much support as well, and I didn’t have to do anything.’

Sonny and his skating partner Angela Egan received an impressive score of 26.5 out of 40 from the judges, the second highest of the week after Faye Brookes and Hamish Gaman.

Capital Breakfast co-host Sian Welby said: ‘We were like nervous parents at the side-lines, we were like mouthing every bit and dancing, honestly we are so proud of you Sonny.

‘I just knew you were going to be good, just because you’ve put in so much effort but I bet you were so relieved weren’t you?’

Sonny said: ‘I was so relieved, I was so nervous but I think you guys were more nervous…’

Roman added: ‘I’m not going to lie pal, I didn’t know how it was going to go.

Sonny replied: ‘You put so much energy into it, ‘go vote for Sonny’, you’d never seen me skate. And I was thinking, oh God.’

Sonny was clearly still on cloud nine after his successful performance on Dancing On Ice as he departed Global Studios with a grin on his face.

The presenter cut a casual figure for the day as he donned a khaki shirt along with a pair of black skinny jeans.

Myleene Klass became the first celebrity given the boot from Dancing On Ice when she was sent home following a dance off with Lady Leshurr.

It comes after Sonny recently declared he wants to ‘beat an Olympian’ on the show, citing Colin Jackson and Graham Bell.

Colin is a runner, while Graham is a skier; Colin won Silver in the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the 110 m hurdles, while Graham represented Great Britain at five Winter Olympics between 1984 and 1998.

His partner Angela previously said: ‘I’ve not seen anyone skate yet so I can’t make that massive judgement but we are skating against two Olympians this week so I think Colin Jackson and Graham Bell are the ones to watch.’

Sonny added: ‘I really want to beat an Olympian to say that I’ve done it.’
