Deborah Knight wants to bring back an old Aussie classic for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

The former Today Show host, 48, has revealed that she started a petition to get singer Nikki Webster, 34, to perform her single Strawberry Kisses at the Games.

Deb talked about the idea with Nikki herself on her 2GB radio show, Afternoons with Deborah Knight, on Tuesday.

They began the discussion by talking about Nikki’s current job running her dance classes during Sydney’s lockdown.

The topic soon changed to the singer’s rise to fame when she sang at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

‘Sydney 2000, the Olympics, you leapt to fame, You were that cutie pie that you were at the opening ceremony,’ the radio host says.

‘It looks pretty much guaranteed that the Olympics are coming back to Australia with Brisbane in 2032, could we see a reprisal of Nikki Webster?’ Knight asks.

The singer responds by explaining it would be up to David Atkins (dance choreographer who auditioned Nikki for the 2000 games) or Ric Birch (director and producer of opening and closing ceremonies at the Olympics).

‘Would you be up for it?’ Deborah adds.

‘Oh my gosh, absolutely,’ says Nikki gleefully. ‘It’s such a magical time for our country. Anything I could do to support it, absolutely. I’ll be there with bells on.’
