Delta Goodrem divides fans with Australia Day performance… with some critics saying they’re ‘disappointed’ in the singer for celebrating ‘Invasion Day’

Delta Goodrem’s Australia Day performance has divided her fans.

While many of her long-time fans admired her true blue patriotism, others were ‘disappointed’ that she decided to celebrate what is considered to be a day of mourning for many of Australia’s indigenous people.

In social media comments published by Yahoo, a number of Delta’s followers expressed their disapproval over the performance.

‘C’mon Delta, I love you so much, but you should know that Australia Day is not a day of celebration, it’s a day of mourning,’ one person commented.

‘No pride in genocide! Disappointed to see you celebrating today,’ added another.

‘It’s disappointing to see such an influential Australian celebrate a day when hundreds of our First Nations people were killed and enslaved,’ another added. ‘We need to educate ourselves and others.’

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom, with many expressing their support for the Born to Try singer.

‘Specially in this difficult times listening to your music is therapy,’ gushed one.

‘Our Aussie icon has returned!’ exclaimed another, while one wrote: ‘I loved your performance. You look stunning too.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Delta for comment. 

Delta wasn’t the only Australian singer to perform at Australia Day, with Casey Donovan and aboriginal didgeridoo player William Barton also taking the stage at the Sydney Opera House.

Casey is of indigenous decent, with a Caucasian mother and an Aboriginal father.

Fans praised her Australia Day performance on Instagram after it was aired on ABC on Tuesday.

‘Fabulous singing on the ABC Australia Day concert Casey,’ wrote one fan.

‘Oh my goodness you singing Thunderstruck tonight was incredible!!!!!’ added another.
