Belgian actress Annie Cordy has died at the age of 92.

The acclaimed screen star passed away following a cardiac arrest at her home in Vallauris, France.

Annie was known for starring in an array of French films after making her debut in 1954, and was made a Baroness in 2004 in recognition of her achievements.

It’s been reported by The Mirror that attempts were made to revive Annie after she suffered a cardiac arrest, but she was pronounced dead.

The screen star had been living in France with her niece.

French television host Christophe Beaugrand-Gerin paid tribute to Annie in a moving tweet, which translated to read: ‘I’m heartbroken tonight. Mrs. Annie Cordy, you have given us so much joy, energy and emotions. We won’t forget you.’

Annie’s last on-screen appearance came in the 2018 film Illiterate, and by that point she had appeared in more than 50 films and TV series.

Among her most iconic roles were Royal Affairs in Versailles in 1954, and The Singer from Mexico in 1956.

She even voiced Grandma Willow in the country’s translation of the 1995 Disney animation Pocahantas.

Annie – real name Leonie, Baroness Cooreman, was born in Belgium in 1928, and also boasted a successful singing career with numerous performances at the Paris Olympia in France. 

She also topped the French charts for six weeks in 1956 with her ballad La Ballade de Davy Crockett.

After decades of success Annie was made a Baroness by King Albert II of Belgium in 2004, and a Commander of the Order of the Crown in 2013.
