Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker broke down in tears after filming her final scenes with Bradley Walsh

Jodie Whittaker revealed she broke down in tears after filming her final scenes with Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole for Doctor Who’s festive special.

The actress, 38, spoke candidly on Monday about the moment she and her co-stars wrapped their last scenes together, admitting she needed to be ‘carried’ to her trailer by the presenter, 60, and actor, 28, because she was so upset.

Detailing what happened, Jodie said: ‘On a personal note, I feel absolutely devastated. Just purely knowing it was the last scenes between myself and those actors – both of them had to carry me to my trailer. 

‘I’ve not cried like that for such a long time. Brad couldn’t cope with it at all. And Tosin was like “I really can’t cope with you getting so upset”. I was like “waah, waah waah.”‘

‘That sums up how I feel. There was not a sense of relief, in any way. When you realise that it’s the last moment these four characters will have, I felt incredibly bereaved.

‘This started as us and that’s so unique, all of our journey has been together and as a family and we clicked like a family.’ 

The acting duo – who play bus driver Graham O’Brien and his on-screen step-grandson in the BBC One series – are set to leave the show after the festive special airs in January.

Speaking about his exit, Bradley said: ‘I have absolutely loved it, loved it. Wales has become like a second home to me and being included in something so iconic and ground breaking with the advent of having a female Doctor, that whole thing where Chibnall sold that to me, it didn’t disappoint and I loved working with those guys.

‘I love working with Chris Chibnall, that man is a genius but to also be working with Mandip and Tosin and of course Jodie is just extraordinary.’

Chris Chibnall added: ‘I can tell you that it’s very emotional, we’re all been in tears watching it. It’s a really important part of the mix of the special, lots of spills, lots of thrills, lots of humour, lots of Daleks and lots of emotion. 

‘We don’t shy away from what it means for this family to have their final moments together and it was emotional off-screen, it’s emotional on-screen and it’s an incredible thing. 

‘They all came together and they all clicked and you never know if that’s going to happen, you could never have known that you’d all get on so well and have such a great time.

‘We all feel very lucky that it happened and these four people came together and it’s reflected on and off screen. I hope it feels like a good send off for those two characters, whatever happens to them.’

The festive special of Doctor Who, Revolution of the Daleks, is set to air on New Year’s Day, with Dame Harriet Walter guest starring on the show. 

John Barrowman will return as Captain Jack Harkness, while Chris Noth will also reprise his role as Jack Robertson.
