Dominic Cooper’s stolen £83k Ferrari found in Surrey scrapyard by police

Mamma Mia actor Dominic Cooper’s stolen Ferrari has been found at a junkyard, MailOnline can exclusively reveal.

The rare 1978 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 – worth £83,000 – was recovered by police on Tuesday, dozens of miles away from the 42-year-old star’s north London home.

Thieves appeared to hotwire the gleaming red sports car as it sat outside the star’s abode in upscale Primrose Hill, with police finding it days later at a scrapyard over 50 miles away in Reigate, Surrey, along with four other stolen vehicles.

A source has told MailOnline that the car has now been taken to a compound, explaining: ‘The dash has been broken. Some of the wires have been cut. 

‘The car is not in pristine condition, it needs a polish. Everyone was talking about how it is Dominic Cooper’s car.’ 

Marvel star Dominic reported the car missing last week, after it became his fourth car to be stolen in the space of just one year. 

The Metropolitan Police said a car matching Cooper’s was recovered in Surrey on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said: ‘On February 19 we received a report that a vehicle had been stolen from Primrose Hill. The theft is believed to have occurred earlier the same day.

‘On Tuesday, February 23, a vehicle matching the description of the one reported stolen was recovered from a Surrey address by Surrey Police. Enquiries continue.’

A Surrey Police spokesperson added: “We can confirm a number of vehicles, which are believed to have been stolen, were recovered at an address in Betchworth on February 23. Enquiries remain ongoing.’

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Dominic Cooper for comment.

Dominic was said to have asked his neighbours on an online forum to keep a look out for his car and encouraged them to keep their possessions safe amidst the ‘rising level of burglaries and theft’ in the local area.

This is the latest in a run of bad luck for The Preacher star as he’s had three other motors stolen in the past year. 

Back in July, it was reported that his 1950s era Austin Healy car, which retails around £65,000, had been stolen.

In another strike of bad luck, Dominic’s Range Rover was also stolen in August with the star appealing on social media for any news about it.

Dominic had been using the larger drive to deliver meals to NHS staff during the first coronavirus lockdown and it had the initiative’s name Cook-19 on the side, reports the Camden New Journal.  

The actor has often spoken about his love of cars, describing them as a form of ‘escapism’ in an article in Leo Edit last year.

He said: ‘I understand that some people view these machines merely as objects that fulfil the need of getting from A to B—a term I despise for it is often within these parameters of the A and the B where the best things happen.

‘But to me, it meant the ability to escape. To travel and be somewhere whenever you wanted, in the time you wanted, without relying on external forces.’ 

While the Need For Speed star said back in 2014: ‘I’ve always loved them and sort of obsessed over them. I suppose a majority of boys do.

‘I remember, at a very young age, polishing my models of Ferraris in my bedroom. While other kids were out riding their bikes, I was polishing Ferraris. It’s very bleak.

‘I had loads of books about cars, and for some reason they were the ones I liked best.’
