Dove Cameron and Jordan Fisher reunite to star in YA adaptation Field Notes on Love for HBO Max

Four years after their hit Disney Channel show Liv and Maddie went off the air, Dove Cameron and Jordan Fisher are reuniting in a new movie.

The 25-year-old Cameron and 26-year-old Fisher have signed on to star in Field Notes on Love for HBO Max, according to Deadline.

The film is based on the 2019 YA novel of the same name by Jennifer E. Smith, who is adapting the script alongside actress Lauren Graham.

The story follows Hugo (Fisher), who is dumped by his girlfriend just before their long-planned train trip across America. 

She leaves him with the non-transferrable tickets, so he takes out an ad for someone to replace his ex, which is answered by Mae (Cameron), who is reeling from being rejected from USC’s film school. 

What begins as a trip between strangers turns into something more, though they must deal with complications from their lives outside the train that threaten to derail their feelings for one another.

Appian Way’s president of production Jennifer Davisson and Phillip Watson are producing, with Fisher serving as executive producer.

While the project reunites Cameron and Fisher, who played Liv Rooney and Holden Dippledorf on Liv & Maddie, which ran from 2013 to 2017 on Disney Channel, it also reunites Fisher with Smith.

Fisher signed on in September to star in an adaptation of Smith’s 2015 book Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between.

Graham is also continuing her relationship with Smith, after coming aboard to write and produce an adaptation of Smith’s 2017 novel Windfall.

While Graham is best known as an actress on Gilmore Girls and most recently the Disney Plus series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, she is also an accomplished writer.

She has written three books, the 2013 novel Someday, Someday, Maybe, a 2016 collection of essays dubbed Talking as Fast as I Can: from Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between and the 2018 advice book In Conclusion, Don’t Worry About It, all three of which have been New York Times best sellers.

Cameron is currently filming The CW’s live-action Powerpuff Girls reboot, portraying Bubbles Utonium.

She’ll next be seen on the big screen in Vengeance with Analeigh Tipton, Ashton Kutcher and writer/director/star B.J. Novak.

Fisher recently signed on to star as Bart Allen, the future son of Barry Allen in The CW’s hit superhero series The Flash.
