Drew Barrymore reveals her children don’t care for her classic film roles in a chat with Hugh Grant

She’s starred in multiple modern classics going back to when she was just a child in the 1980s.

But Drew Barrymore revealed Wednesday in a chat with her Music And Lyrics costar Hugh Grant for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation that her kids don’t care for any of her best-remembered movies.

‘They call them “mom movies,”‘ the 45-year-old actress admitted.

A house divided: Drew Barrymore, 45, admitted on Wednesday that her two daughters don’t like any of her classic films in a chat with Hugh Grant for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation

Drew shares two young daughters— Olive, eight, and Frankie, six — with her ex-husband Will Kopelman.

According to her, the kids have seen some of her best-loved and critically appraised films, including Steven Spielberg’s E.T.: The Extraterrestrial, her Adam Sandler romantic comedy 50 First Dates and her high school–set rom-com Never Been Kissed, all of which left them cold.

Hugh, 60, was shocked when he asked Drew if the girls had enjoyed the movie they made together, Music and Lyrics.

She admitted: ‘You know, I don’t think they’ve seen it, crazy enough.’

‘That is insane,’ he said with what looked like genuine astonishment.

‘I make mine watch my films every night. If they don’t watch my films, they don’t get fed,’ he joked.

Hugh’s response made the Santa Clarita Diet star promise to show her daughters Music And Lyrics.

‘I think I’m going to force them to watch it,’ she said.

However, the Donnie Darko actress doesn’t think their distaste for her work will last forever.

‘This is like phases of their life,’ she mused. ‘They’ll come around.’

Meanwhile, Drew previously admitted that, while she’s happy to speak about her own life, she tries to be more responsible about sharing when it comes to her children.

‘My life with my children, my feelings, that’s all on the table — but [Olive and Frankie themselves] are not,’ she said on her new talk show The Drew Barrymore Show.

‘Because of my life experiences, I’m not selling my brand on my kids. I won’t do it. But to ignore that part of my life would make me an automaton.

‘So it’s really inventive to figure out how to bring them into the omelet and fold it in, in a way that feels appropriate for me.’

Drew hasn’t been shy about digging into her iconic film roles to promote her talk show.

Her promos ahead of its debut featured recycled footage of her as a child from her well-received appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson to promote E.T.

She’s also interviewed herself while playing her Never Been Kissed character Josie Grossie, who was still stuck in the late 1980s.

In the romantic comedy, the age-defying actress played a newspaper copy editor who hasn’t found romance in her life yet.

When she takes up an assignment to pose as a high schooler, she finds herself falling back into the same patterns that made her early life so painful.
