Eamonn Holmes is left red-faced after throwback snap shows the presenter as a dapper teen

‘I’d just come back from church!’ Eamonn Holmes is left red-faced after throwback snap shows the presenter as a VERY dapper teen on This Morning

Eamonn Holmes was left red-faced during Thursday’s This Morning as bosses unearthed a snap from his teenage years.

The presenter, 61, joked he was celebrating getting a bargain on his new car as the 1970s snap showed him posing in a three-piece suit.

Eamonn was surprised with the image by presenter Gok Wan during a segment on 70s fashion, as he joked that it wasn’t only his models who could rock looks from the decade.

The image showed Eamonn in a smart grey three-piece suit with contrasting brown shows as he posed on the street next to his new car.

Surprised by the image, the broadcaster told Gok and wife Ruth Langsford: ‘That was a Sunday I’d just come back from church, it was a three piece suit. That was my car I’d just bought for £500.’

Adding he’d just picked up the suit from Topshop back home in Northern Ireland, Gok was quick to note that he must have been referring to the male brand Topman.

It comes after Eamonn was  slammed by This Morning viewers after he made a jibe about his wife Ruth weight on Monday’s episode of the chat show.

The couple are hosting the programme for the half-term break, marking their first return as presenters since their Friday slot was axed last year.

But Eamonn was accused of ‘body shaming’ Ruth during the It’s Behind You segment where a viewer calls in and describes what is behind the hosts, who have to guess the right answer.

During the game, a picture of Kate Middleton appeared on screen, with the caller saying: ‘She’s very thin,’ and ‘she’s married to…’ before his time ran out.

Eamonn turned to Ruth when he heard ‘thin’ and said: ‘She’s very thin, well it’s not you darling.’

Ruth ignored her husband’s remark and correctly guessed it was Kate Middleton before Eamonn added: ‘He wouldn’t say she was very thin and married to Eamonn Holmes, would he! No, he wouldn’t have done that!’

Viewers quickly took to social media to hit out at the remark, with one user saying: ‘Imagine body shaming your wife on national telly’.

Elsewhere during the episode, Ruth admitted she is a ‘jealous woman’ and would not like it if she saw Eamonn ‘liking’ other women’s social media posts too often.

Eamonn and Ruth will front the programme from Monday to Friday during the course of the half-term period this week.

The couple made a cheery comeback, with Eamonn sharing: ‘Half term, it’s Eamonn and Ruth on your screens until Friday.’

Ruth – who has been married to the Northern Irish host since 2010 following a 13-year relationship – added: ‘It certainly is and it’s lovely to see you all.’

This Morning airs Mondays to Fridays from 10am to 12:30pm on ITV.
