EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Netflix’s Bridgerton will bounce back despite fans’ uproar amid news Rege-Jean Page has left the series, says Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes

While Bridgerton fans have been in uproar over the departure of show’s dashing lead Rege-Jean Page, who starred as the Duke of Hastings, Julian Fellowes believes the Netflix hit costume drama can quickly bounce back.

The Downton Abbey creator tells me: ‘There are characters in shows who are key, there is no point in denying it, but the truth of the matter is most of the audience — however much they loved him — will give the second series a chance because they enjoyed the first so much. The show must go on.’

For Page it has, as the 31-year-old actor has been linked with a move to MI6 as a character in the next James Bond film, which remains top secret.

James and Ella are party animals!

Birthdays are a good time to reflect on what’s important. So when the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger brother, James Middleton, turned 34 this week, he made sure to honour a very special lady.

Awkwardly, it wasn’t his French fiancee, Alizee Thevenet, but his pooch, Ella.

‘I’m truly so thankful to Ella for bringing so much happiness into my life,’ he told friends of his cocker spaniel. ‘She was the one who introduced me to Alizee, supported me during my experience with clinical depression, kept me young and active.’

James — who became engaged to the financier in 2019 — adds that it was also Ella who inspired him to launch his dog food company, which he named after her.

Fashion and beauty guru Trinny Woodall insists on living on a shoestring budget, despite owning the £180 million beauty empire Trinny London.

The What Not To Wear star, who has been dating millionaire art dealer Charles Saatchi since 2013, says not owning a home is one of the ways she stays in the black.

‘I live with somebody who has a lovely home. It’s like, do I take money off the table now to just get the basic things as a woman in her 50s kind of should have by now? Or do I say no, because I have a roof over my head and I’m very happy in my relationship.’

She adds: ‘I don’t need that much; I don’t need to go on big extravagant holidays. I’ve done so much in life I don’t need that wow fizz.’
