Emma Bunton asks Kim Kardashian to join the Spice Girls

Emma Bunton offered Kim Kardashian the opportunity to join the Spice Girls on Sunday – after Kim dressed up as her alter-ego Baby Spice last week.

Superfan Kim paid tribute to her favourite band member Emma when she posted a picture of her hair styled up in pigtails – as was Bunton’s trademark style from the group’s nineties heyday.

‘Baby Spice,’ Kim, 40, captioned this.

Taking to the airwaves on her Sunday night radio show, Emma said: ‘Now in the week I was sitting on the sofa, as you do, scrolling through Instagram, when I came across a picture of Kim Kardashian with her hair in pigtails and the caption saying ‘Baby Spice’.

‘I mean, I nearly spat my tea out!’

She went on: ‘Kim, I was thinking, ok so this year it’s the Spice Girls’ 25th anniversary and we definitely can’t have two Baby Spices in the band, I’m afraid not, but I’m sure the girls wouldn’t mind you joining! Hey?

‘Let me know, and I’ll add you to the WhatsApp group!’

The band – which also features Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Mel C, and Geri Horner – famously have a group message which they use to chat, mull over plans and keep in touch.

They are said to be planning some form of Covid-depending celebrations to mark 25 years since their debut single Wannabe stormed the charts.

Kim – who is rumoured to be going through a ‘divorce’ from husband Kanye West – has always been a fan of the Spice Up Your Life singers.

Last July she posted a group shot of her sisters likening them to the Spice Girls, which prompted Victoria to ask which of the Kardashian sisters had dressed up as Posh Spice.

In 2015, the mother-of-four shared an epic throwback of herself posing as Posh, as she dressed up as the group in high school.

‘I’m so thankful that me and my friends were the Spice Girls for our high school talent show!,’ Kim wrote, adding: ‘The Spice Girls got me through a lot!’

Mel B has insisted the girls are up for marking their 25th year ‘as soon as the rules allow it’.

With countless shows and tours cancelled and postponed over the past year thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the singer, 45, admitted it’s been tricky to put plans into motion, having reformed the group for a Spice World UK tour in 2019.

‘People need a bit of entertainment. Music brings people together. I would love it – as soon as the rules allow it, then yeah,’ Mel said, as reported the The Mirror last month.

She went on: ‘Until the virus gets under control I don’t think anyone can securely say “I’m definitely going on tour”.

‘When it comes to putting on a show or concert, I don’t know how people are going to do it without the proper guidelines and information, because things change on a weekly basis.

‘Us lot are definitely up for it – it’s just a case of timings and safety. I’m always itching to get back on to the stage.’

It’s thought that Mel has been coaxing Victoria Beckham to take part in marking Wannabe, after she opted not to tour with the group in 2019.

Whether Posh Spice would be up for more than a one-off is unsure, having ruled it out in the past.

This follows comments from Mel C that the band want to tour the US next – something they have not done since their 2008 reunion The Return Of The Spice Girls.

She told Access Hollywood: ‘We love being in the USA and have had so many great times there doing TV shows and promotional stuff. And we so want to get back there.

‘We do not have any plans, but we are hooking up quite soon and that needs certain discussion.

‘We need things to look forward to and we can make good plans for something positive in the future.’

The singer admitted previously that it ‘would be rude’ not to celebrate their impressive milestone this year.

She said: ‘We had the most incredible year last year, playing stadiums and we have got to do it again. We talk about it all the time.

‘Of course [2020] has thrown everything into chaos, I think a lot of the big artists that were planning to perform this year will move to [2021].

‘So sadly it probably will delay the Spice Girls getting back on stage, but I’m doing everything in my power to make that happen.’

Tune into Emma Bunton on Heart every Sunday 7-10PM.
