Back to business! Eric Bana teams up with The Dry director Robert Connelly again to film new Tim Winton adaptation in Western Australia

Eric Bana’s latest film, The Dry, has earned an impressive $17 million at the Australian box office.

And now, the 52-year-old actor is teaming up again with the flick’s director, Robert Connelly, to film an adaptation of Tim Winton’s hit novella, Blueback, in Western Australia.

Speaking to The West Live, Robert revealed that production is already underway at Bremar Bay in the state’s south coast.

‘We’re filming now, and we’ll shoot right through to Easter, and then, post-Easter, there’ll be a shoot in Exmouth,’ Robert told the podcast.

‘It’s a credit to how WA has handled COVID that we’re able to make this film in such a positive way… and filming down in Bremer Bay is incredible.’

Also starring in the film are fellow Australian actresses, Mia Wasikowska and Radha Mitchell and newcomers Ariel Donoghue and Ilsa Fogg.

The film tells the story of Abby (in Tim’s novella it’s a boy named Abel), who befriends a giant groper [a fish] while diving and becomes an activist.

Mia is set to play the titular character while Ariel and Ilsa are set to portray the younger versions of the character.

It comes after Eric admitted that it was ‘really special’ to be able to film The Dry without leaving the country.

The Dry was filmed across more than 20 regional towns in rural Victoria last year, before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

‘Being able to film in regional Victoria was really, really special and not having to sit on a plane for 20 hours, and that sort of thing, it did feel fantastic,’ he told Daily Mail Australia last month.

The Dry marked Eric’s first lead role in an Australian film in 13 years.
