During the interview, Eric spoke about the band’s smash hit, To Be With You and said how much he loves watching the video still.

‘I love seeing that video… it’s great, fantastic definitely… 30 years ago when I was a lot younger. But, you know, still feels good seeing it,’ he said.

Eric confirmed that he wrote the song in a bid to impress a woman named Patricia who he had a crush on in his younger years.

‘I was trying to impress my sister’s girlfriends,’ he began.

‘We had a big old tree in the front yard and I used to play these songs. I would open up like a Mother Goose nursery book or something like that, I would sing songs and write these lyrics.’

He added: ‘I wrote To Be With You about a special friend of mine, named Patricia, who I completely loved. But I misconstrued the situation. She just wanted to be my friend. She liked this guitar player in the band and he wasn’t giving her the time of day and I was like, ‘I’m right here!’

Eric recently told Cryptic Rock about the band’s journey over the years, saying it’s ‘been kind of a rollercoaster ride.’

‘The big part of this band and how it stayed together for so long, sometimes we get along, sometimes we don’t, but we do have much respect for one another,’ he said.

He also reflected on the loss of bandmate Pat Torpey, who died in February 2018 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

‘And Pat Torpey, his loss, it’s hard for me to even speak about it. You never met a greater drummer and person than Pat,’ he said.
