Erin Molan announces she’s quit alcohol after making an embarrassing drunk call to NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian

Erin Molan has vowed to give up drinking alcohol, after making an embarrassing drunken phone call tot he NSW Premier during a wild girl’s night out.

The presenter, 38, made the surprising admission on Monday during her debut appearance on 2day FM’s Hughsey, Ed & Erin show, telling listeners that she hadn’t touched a drink for weeks.

Welcoming NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian onto the show for an interview, Erin sheepishly confessed: ‘I have actually quit drinking for January… but I’ve had a couple of indiscretions.’

Erin explained that she was enjoying a boozy night out with fellow TV personalities Belinda Russell and Lizzie Pearl when the topic of COVID-19 came up in conversation.

‘We were talking – and we clearly need to get lives – but we were talking about how well you [Ms Berejiklian] have handled the pandemic and how we all look up to you,’ Erin explained.

At this stage it was around midnight, but that didn’t stop Erin from making the drunken decision to call Ms Berejiklian for a chat.

‘Then I said to the girls, ‘Gladys and I are basically best friends, do you want me to call her and I will tell her how we all feel?” Erin said.

Ms Berejiklian never picked up the call, and has since never called Erin back.

‘So the Premier of the state didn’t answer, nor has she returned my calls since. I just wanted to check the status of our friendship, Gladys,’ Erin joked.

Taking the segment in good humour, Ms Berejiklian confessed that she did see Erin’s name flash on her phone, but assumed she’d called her by accident.

Ms Berejiklian also insisted that she never meant to give Erin the cold shoulder, despite how it may appear.

‘I thought that I did return your text, Erin. If I didn’t, I apologise,’ she said.
