Eva Mendes took a break from social media after her daughter said she was ‘on the phone too much’

She’s gone nearly silent on Instagram over the past month.

And Eva Mendes revealed on Saturday that her social media absence came after one of her young daughters was disappointed about how much attention she was paying to her phone.

The 46-year-old actress was inspired to make the admission after sharing a post encouraging parents to let their children call them out.

Eva reposted a tweet from the @latinxparenting account about how to deal with ‘disrespect’ from children.

‘Let your kids call you out. It’s not disrespect. It’s healthy,’ it began.

‘Kids can be so fiercely aligned with their value that they will take nothing less than the respect they deserve. They will take no BS. Not even from you,’ the post continued.

‘Congratulations, you are raising an empowered child.’

In her caption, Eva explained: ‘I haven’t posted lately because my little one told me I was on the phone too much.

‘I could tell she was taking it personally. And she’s a kid, of course she’d take it personally. They take things personally unless we go out of our way to make it clear to them it’s not personal,’ she explained.

Eva’s message was her first since since December 29, when she wished a happy birthday to the makeup artist Shirley Raines, who administers to unhoused people living on Downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row.

Her last in a string of Instagram posts came on December 17, when she cut-out an iconic record cover of opera singer Maria Callas to snap a photo of herself.

‘My little girl wanted to cut out Maria Callas’ face from the record cover. I quietly died a little inside but I quickly said yes. Mom pandemic guilt in full effect,’ she admitted in her caption.

In October, Eva joked to the Sydney Morning Herald that being in quarantine sometimes ‘feels like we are running some kind of bed-and-breakfast with very drunk and aggressive guests.’

‘We really do feel like we are working in a hotel, and the guests are angry and bossy and demand food brought to them. And by the time they go to sleep, we’re left to just clean up and talk about how they’ve treated us that day!’

The Hitch star has stayed out of the limelight in recent years as she has focused on raising her daughters Esmeralda, six, and Amada, four, whom she shares with her husband Ryan Gosling, 40.

The couple met in 2011 on the set of their film The Place Beyond The Pines, which starred Ryan and Bradley Cooper in lead roles and was released the following year.

The actors and lovers launched an artistic collaboration when she appeared in Ryan’s directorial debut Lost River as the cabaret performer Cat, who puts on a gory act for her customers.

The experimental and critically divisive film was a commercial flop, and it also marked Eva’s last film to date as she stepped away from Hollywood to focus on raising her children.

The actress has spoke repeatedly in recent years about the possibility of returning to the screen.

She told HuffPost Australia in October that Disney films might be the only thing left that she could act in because she didn’t want to be involved with violence or anything that her children would be ’embarrassed’ by.
