Ex NRL WAG Phoebe Burgess supports Geelong Cats for AFL Grand Final

Former NRL WAG Phoebe Burgess has shown her support for the AFL, ahead of Saturday’s Grand Final match between the Geelong Cats and the Richmond Tigers.

The 31-year-old, who finalised her divorce from former South Sydney Rabbitohs player Sam Burgess this year, shared a celebratory photo to Instagram Stories.

In the picture, a casually dressed Phoebe could not wipe the smile off her face as she posed with what looked to be son Billy, one, who wore a Geelong Cats cap.

Who knew she was a fan? Former NRL WAG Phoebe Burgess, 31, and her family showed their support for the Geelong Cats on AFL’s grand final night on Saturday. Pictured on another occasion

Phoebe donned a chic beige patterned shirt, tucked into ripped white jeans, and accessorised with a navy blue and white striped scarf, for the Geelong Cats.

One of her children, presumably son Billy, kept close to his famous mother, and looked cute in the AFL team’s signature blue cap with logo.

It comes after Phoebe faced criticism earlier this month for still going by her married name after her nasty divorce from retired NRL star Sam, 31.

Some of her fans found it unusual that she hadn’t gone back to using her maiden name, Hooke, given the serious allegations levelled against Sam concerning his behaviour during their marriage.

‘You need to change your surname – a man who disrespected you so much – you need to be you again,’ one person wrote.

‘You’re a trooper… But change your Mrs status… you’re not his Mrs… you belong to you,’ another added.

There are many reasons why a woman may wish to keep her married name after divorce. For example, she may want to have the same name as her children.

Fortunately, most of Phoebe’s followers were less concerned about her surname, and instead offered their support.

Phoebe shares Billy and daughter Poppy, three, with her ex-husband. She and Sam finalised their divorce in April this year.

At the time, The Daily Telegraph reported that Phoebe had walked away with 70 per cent of the former couple’s marital wealth.

She also took ownership of a white SDVA Range Rover valued at $100,000, as well as Sam’s F45 gym in Bowral, which she subsequently sold for a $250,000 profit.

On October 2, Sam was formally stood down from his coaching role at the South Sydney Rabbitohs after claims about his marriage and wild lifestyle were published in The Australian newspaper.
