Moving on: Sam Burgess is ready for a fresh start on the back of his acrimonious split from ex-wife Phoebe Burgess

It comes after a difficult couple of years, which saw Sam and Phoebe, 31, split in September 2019 after nearly four years of marriage.

They are believed to have finalised their divorce just before Christmas last year.

Phoebe is said to have walked away with 70 per cent of the couple’s marital wealth, including Sam’s F45 gym franchise, which she has since sold.

The former magazine journalist also kept a $100,000 Range Rover, which she is regularly seen driving around Bowral, where her parents live.

The exes sold their property in Sydney’s Maroubra in January last year for $5million.

Sam is now defending charges of assaulting and intimidating Phoebe’s father, Mitchell Hooke.

The former sportsman has pleaded not guilty to intimidation and common assault arising from the alleged incident at the Hooke home on October 19, 2019.

Mr Hooke claimed his former son-in-law stood over him in a menacing manner, called him a ‘piece of s**t’ and said ‘I’m going to get you’.

He also said he feared being hit by the footballer.

But Sam claimed it was Mr Hooke who threatened him by saying: ‘I’m going to destroy you if it’s the last thing I do. I’m going to destroy you and your career.’

Phoebe also admitted leaking a damning 50-page police statement she made about her ex-husband to a newspaper, which published allegations against him of domestic violence and drug misuse.

Sam and Phoebe married in December 2015, and are parents to daughter Poppy, who turns four this month, and son Billy, two.
