Former PA to ‘top fashion designer’ reveals she had to deliver £70 underwear to her boss at airport

A former personal assistant to a ‘top fashion designer’ has revealed how she was ‘worked like a dog’ and once had to plead with Heathrow security to deliver her boss underwear after he forgot to pack it for a trip – which he didn’t end up wearing.

London-based Fionnuala Ellen, who did not reveal who she worked for, took to TikTok to share how she would ‘keep her phone on loud 24/7’ because she was ‘terrified of ‘missing a call’ from the ‘big designer that would be worn on the red carpet’.

The tale has been seen by more than a million TikTok users who have asked for more details from her time in the role, with many comparing the experience to Anne Hathaway’s character in The Devil Wears Prada.

In a follow up video, Fionnuala revealed more stories from her ‘crazy experience’ as a PA, including having to leave a night out with friends to deliver him sleeping pills and how the designer would call her at ‘4am just to order a taxi, even though he could hail one down’.

‘I use to be a personal assistant to quite a top fashion designer, everyone would wear his stuff on the red carpet,’ she revealed in the video.

‘He literally worked me like a dog, I would have my phone on loud 24/7 as I was terrified of missing a call,’ she added.

‘So this one time he was flying from New York to Heathrow.

‘And usually I would pack a suitcase if he was going from the studio,  but because he was travelling from his house he had to pack it.

‘He calls me in an absolute panic saying he forgot to pack his own underwear,’ she continued.

‘I say there’s no problem and Google places in Heathrow, I say “look there’s Calvin Klein, you can get them from there,”

‘He says, “No, no, no, I have to wear this specific kind, you need to get them for me”.’

‘So I had to run to Selfridges like a mad woman to find this specific kind, they’re about £70 a pair.

‘I popped in a taxi and ran to Heathrow and was screaming at security, I literally looked like a mad woman.

‘And that’s when I realised, “What the hell am I doing?”. He got his underwear and didn’t even say thank you.’

In the comments section, Fionnuala said that once he returned from the trip, she unpacked his suitcase to discover he hadn’t even worn the brand new underwear.

‘The devil wears £70 underwear!’ wrote one user, while a second penned: ‘I think you should write that book!’

‘He didn’t even say thanks, I can’t!’ replied a third.

When one person commented ‘oh so you lived in the Devil Wears Prada’ Fionnuala replied: ‘1000000 per cent’.

The comment refers to the 2006 hit film starring Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, an assistant to Miranda Preistley, the editor of a top-selling fashion magazine.

‘So definitely wasn’t expecting that video to pop off the way it did. So I guess it’s only fair to say a few more stories,’ she says.

‘His own partner use to call me to ask what type of mood he was in, just so they know whether to call him,’ she adds.

‘I was once on a night out and he called me because he needed his sleeping tablets.

‘I had to run back to the studio at 11 o’clock at night and courier them to his house, at midnight.

‘He would have no concept of time and would call me at 3 o’clock, 4 o’clock in the morning just to order a taxi, even though we were in  London and New York and he could hail one down.

‘I use to be a ballerina when I was younger and I’d have lessons. And one evening I wanted to make a lesson at about 7pm, and he said to me “You’re not a ballerina anymore, you work for me’.

‘And yes, he did throw a stapler at me, but it wasn’t really aimed at me, it was more just because he was mad at life.

‘Overall it was a crazy experience but at least now I can laugh about it rather than cry’.
