Gemma Collins ‘would be destroyed if on-off beau James Argent relapses again’

Gemma Collins ‘would be destroyed’ if her on/off beau James Argent relapses again after pinning ‘all her hopes’ on their reunion working, a source has claimed.

The media personality, 40, and her former TOWIE co-star, 33, who has candidly spoken about his drug addiction in the past, are thought to have rekindled their romance in recent weeks after an explosive public split last year.

However a source has now claimed that Gemma is ‘scared’ about the possibility of Arg having a relapse, especially as this would affect her dreams of having a baby.

Claims: Gemma Collins ‘would be destroyed’ if her on-off beau James Argent relapses again after pinning ‘all her hopes and dreams’ on their reunion working, a source has alleged

A friend of the star told Closer: ‘All her hopes and dreams are pinned on this new reunion with Arg… she is still scared that he could relapse again.

‘That would cast serious doubt on her achieving her baby dream, and those who care about her worry that would destroy her after everything she has been through for him.’

However they added that Gemma believes their relationship will work out this time for two reasons, with the first being that Arg has been in therapy to ‘work on getting to the root of his issues’.

They added: ‘The second is that Gemma is convinced Arg has re-evaluated his future and he now sees a wife and children as priority.’

MailOnline has contacted Gemma and James’s representatives for a comment.

It comes after Gemma proclaimed 2021 is ‘her year’ and she is hoping to end it with a ‘gigantic yellow diamond’ and a baby during an interview with The Sun.

She said: ‘I feel very settled in my 40s. I think this is Gemma’s year. I’ve overcome a lot. I just feel I’m ready for a baby. I’ve had an amazing career the last 10 years. I’ve now got my house. I’m settled, so I’m ready for action!

Gemma explained she has been having tarot card readings with a woman named Emma who told her to expect big things in the coming months.

The star said: ‘She says I’m definitely going to have a baby this year and I’ll definitely get a ring on my finger. It had better be a big one. I want a yellow diamond. A huge one. A gigantic one!’

Gemma also recently revealed she felt suicidal as her on-off boyfriend James’ battled with drug addiction destroyed their relationship.

The reality star sat down for an emotional interview with Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, which aired on ITV, and confessed that when Arg hit rock bottom over Christmas of 2019, she considered taking her own life.

In the incredibly honest chat, she also spoke about suffering with her mental health earlier in life, admitting she used to self-harm.

As host Piers looked back over her tumultuous romance with James, Gemma broke down as she said to him: ‘For anyone that ever thinks about taking drugs or trying it for one night, you can end up getting really addicted.

‘I was really happy with James. We did get on, but the drugs changed him as a person. I fought every day for three years to get him well.’

When prompted to discuss her lowest moment throughout their struggles, she admitted: ‘I have felt suicidal… I think when my relationship broke down with Arg, that affected me. I just thought, I don’t wanna be here anymore. I can’t take it.

‘Christmas was an all-time low. I saved his life three times. I had this insatiable love for him. I never wanted to give up on him.’

James would go on to seek treatment at the start of 2020, jetting off to Thailand to spend several weeks trying to kick his drink and drug habit once and for all.

On his return home, further heartbreak followed, when Gemma had a miscarriage at the start of the COVID-19 lockdown last spring – news which took a toll on both her and James.

‘Definitely, I would have had the baby with James,’ Gemma insisted as she teared up at the memory of the ordeal. ‘I know obviously he’s had his struggles, but it is hard.’

‘There’s a lot of love there. The relationship turned very, very sour with James when he started to do drugs. James wouldn’t have deserted me.

‘You don’t dislike James when you meet him. What happened was, in March when he came home, obviously miscarriage, lockdown… around that time everything had come back for me. I couldn’t just sweep it under the carpet.’

Gemma, who branded James the ‘love of [her] life’, went on: ‘I can remember I was getting flashbacks, not realising how much had this had taken its toll on me. And I spoke with my therapist and she said, ‘You are suffering with PTSD.”

Troubled James was taken to hospital for the second time in two months in 2019, after friends and family feared he had attempted a second ‘overdose’.

Paramedics rushed to his £1.3m home in South Woodford, Essex in December, where they found the star ‘disorientated’ shortly before friends – including Mark Wright – rallied around in a bid to help him get the support he needs.

The TV star spent three months in a facility in Thailand over the festive season in 2016 in a bid to curb his addiction and revealed he checked himself in to a programme in order to get the ‘ongoing support’ he needed.

In August 2019, Arg returned to rehab following a split from Gemma in a bid to tackle his demons. By January of last year, he jetted off to Thailand for continued treatment, returning to the UK several weeks later to be reunited with Gemma.

Arg has battled drink and drug addiction since finding fame on TOWIE. In 2014 he was suspended from the show after he failed a routine drugs test.

Gemma and Arg have endured a rocky on/off romance ever since they were first linked almost 10 years ago in 2012.
