Gogglebox star Jad breaks his silence on rumours he is going be the next Bachelor

He’s well known for his witty one-liners on Gogglebox, but could Jad Nehmetallah be leaving his friends Matty and Sarah Marie Fahd on the couch to hand out roses on The Bachelor?

In an interview with New Idea on Monday, the 35-year-old businessman was quick to shut down the rumours.

‘I am happy being on the couch at the moment with Sarah Marie, Matty and Malik,’ he told the gossip magazine.

Setting the record straight: Gogglebox’s Jad Nehmetallah has shut down rumours he is being considered as a candidate for this year’s season of Channel 10’s The Bachelor

He also confirmed he did not intend on joining I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here either.

‘I love my food too much to be on I’m A Celeb and as for The Bachelor, I have my mum and all my friends always on the look out for potential suitors… who knows in the future, but for now, the couch is where I am at.’

Jad’s admission comes after Channel 10 recently confirmed they’ve found a suitor for the popular dating show.

Earlier this month, Channel 10’s Head of Programming, Daniel Monaghan, told TV Tonight, ‘We’re really happy with who has signed on to The Bachelor.’

Mr Monaghan confirmed the new suitor wasn’t a celebrity or a former contestant from The Bachelorette.

‘[You don’t know him yet], but you will,’ he said. ‘I think he’s a fantastic get for the franchise.’

Mr Monaghan said he was confident the new season ‘will deliver’, but hinted the tagline ‘Australia’s most eligible bachelor’ was ‘open to interpretation’.

‘Which is why it’s such a good phrase! Maybe you can be more desirable, for whatever reason…’ he teased.

This is not the first time Jad has spoken about potentially joining the dating show, as he’s been plagued with these rumours for years.

In August, he first addressed the speculation in a chat with Foxtel.com.au. ‘It’s insane how many people online and in person have been mentioning it,’ he said.

‘I am interested in finding love and starting a family but I’m having way too much fun with Matty and Sarah Marie on the couch to do anything else,’ he added.

He previously told the website he had imagined his life at 34 to be different.

‘I always pictured myself married by now with two to three kids,’ he said at the time.

It comes as his co-stars Matty and Sarah Marie jokingly said Jad wouldn’t be the best candidate for the role as The Bachelor.

‘I think his mum would get involved and knock back all the contestants and ask them to recast – that’s my bet!’ Matty, 33, told WHO magazine

Matty, who has been Jad’s best friend for more than 10 years, added: ‘It would make good television, but I don’t think Jad would be very happy by the end.’

Gogglebox returns on Foxtel’s LifeStyle Channel on Wednesdays at 7.30pm from February 17 and Thursdays at 8.30pm on Channel 10.
