Gossip Girl reboot cast bring attitude as they film new HBO Max series on location in New York City

The cast of HBO Max’s new Gossip Girl series were hard at work on the location set in New York City on Wednesday.

The ensemble of mostly unknown young actors braved the chilly weather to nail the scenes that appeared to be taking place in imaginary warmer times.

In between takes, they bundled up in long puffer coats as they hung out at the Museum of the City of New York on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Just like the original series that aired from 2002 to 2012 on The CW, the new incarnation centers on students at an exclusive Manhattan prep school.

The cast includes Whitney Peak, Jordan Alexander, Emily Lind, Thomas Doherty and Evan Mock.

The 10-episode season, slated to premiere sometime in 2021, is set eight years after the original Gossip Girl finale.

Narrated by original star Kristen Bell, the new show is billed as an exploration of how social media has transformed the social scene of New York’s elites.

And while it’s commonly referred to as a Gossip Girl ‘reboot’, showrunner Joshua Safran is at pains to stress that it really isn’t.

He has pointed out on his own social media that while it inhabits the same world as the original CW show, the cast are not playing original characters.

‘I really wanted this to feel like an extension and in no way a reboot. So it’s an evolution of the story, not a retread,’ he tweeted.

The rest of the cast is rounded out by Adam Chanler-Berat, Jonathan Fernandez, Jason Gotay, Zión Moreno, Savannah Lee Smith and Tavi Gevinson.

Filming, which started in mid-October, will also take place in Los Angeles and Vancouver, Canada.
