Gossip Girl stars Whitney Peak and Tavi Gevinson brave New York City’s chill to film scenes for HBO Max reboot

It may be Thanksgiving week but filming continues apace on HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reimagination.

And on Monday, actresses Tavi Gevinson and Whitney Peak were seen on location in New York City, braving the cold weather to shoot scenes for the show.

Gevinson seemed to get chilled by the wind as she shot a scene on the steps of a museum while Peak made sure to wrap herself up warm in between takes.

Actress Whitney Peak also made sure to bundle up during takes to try and keep the chill at bay

Brrrr: Filming for HBO Max’s new Gossip Girl series was underway in New York City on Monday and actresses Tavi Gevinson, left, and Whitney Peak, right, clearly struggled to stay warm

Just like the original series that aired from 2002 to 2012 on The CW, the new incarnation centers on students at any exclusive prep school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Filming, which started in mid-October, will also take place in Los Angeles and Vancouver, Canada.

Peak, 15, played Idris Elba’s daughter in the 2017 film Molly’s Game and also appeared in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Gevinson, 24, made a name for herself as a style blogger and has a few small acting roles in her resume.

Reboot: Peak, 15, wore a prep school uniform as the show, like it's predecessor that ran on The CW from 2007 to 2012, is set in the world of privileged students on Manhattan's Upper East Side

Also seen on the set Monday were castmembers Emily Alyn Lind, 18, and Eli Brown, 21.

The 10-episode season, slated to premiere sometime in 2021, is set eight years after the original show’s finale.

Narrated by original star Ktristen Bell, it’s billed as an exploration of how social media has transformed the social scene of New York’s elites.

And while it’s commonly referred to as a Gossip Girl ‘reboot’,  showrunner Joshua Safran is at pains to stress that it really isn’t.

He has pointed out on his own social media that while it inhabits the same world as the original CW show, the cast are not playing original characters.

‘I really wanted this to feel like an extension and in no way a reboot. So it’s an evolution of the story, not a retread,’ he tweeted.

The rest of the cast is rounded out by Jordan Alexander, Adam Chanler-Berat, Thomas Doherty, Jonathan Fernandez, Jason Gotay, Zión Moreno and Savannah Lee Smith.
