A grandmother has been praised after knitting her granddaughter’s dream Christmas jumper after she created the design for a school project. 

Julie Cordiner, from Hartlepool, delighted Twitter users after sharing an adorable picture of her young granddaughter Jessica wearing a hand-made festive jumper after she designed it at school. 

The little girl had designed her own jumper for her school homework ahead of Christmas Jumper Day and Julie said her granddaughter’s reaction to the garment was ‘priceless’. 

The post gathered 6,500 retweets and 109,600 likes with users calling the Christmas jumper ‘amazing’, and saying Jessica will ‘never forget’ the gesture.

Sharing pictures of the drawing and the jumped, Julie penned: ‘My granddaughter had homework to design a Christmas jumper, so I decided to try to create it. 

‘The look on her face when she opened it was priceless! Merry Christmas everyone.’ 

The tweet quickly went viral, with users praising the ‘lovely’ present and sharing memories of their own grandmothers knitting for them.  

‘A true labour of love’, wrote one, ‘It’s really beautiful and she’ll never forget it. Did you write a pattern for it? Maybe you could raise more money for charity with.’
