Grant Hackett reveals his mother Margaret fell pregnant with him after she overcame cancer – despite being told she could not have more children

Grant Hackett has revealed that his mother, Margaret, overcame cancer prior to falling pregnant with him.

As reported by The Courier Mail, the 40-year-old told the Stav, Abby & Matt radio show that there was a six-year-gap between himself and his brother Craig, 46, because his mum, his mum, now 75, fell ill before Grant was born.

‘That was the reason that there was such a big gap (between children). Originally it was going to be two years, but she had cancer,’ he said.

In fact, the swimmer’s mother was told she was unlikely to have more children due to the diagnosis.

‘It was kind of one of those things where they said mum actually couldn’t fall pregnant again or anything like that. Then it came around and here I am today.

‘Thank goodness it all happened. It’s a story I’ve actually never shared before,’ he added.
