Jonah Hill appears to be finishing off the first week of 2021 with some outdoor fun.

On Friday, the 37-year-old was spotted catching some waves in Manhattan Beach, just south of Los Angeles.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor appeared to be having a great time as he paddled out to get a couple of good rides in with a friend.

Dropping in: Jonah Hill was spotted going on a surfing trip with a pal at El Porto beach just south of Los Angeles on Friday

The actor was seen wearing a dark multicolored wetsuit to keep himself comfortable in the frigid winter water.

Hill appeared to be unshaven during his session and let his brunette hair hang loose for his time in the water.

At a certain point during the trip, the War Dogs actor took a wave lying down on his board without attempting to ride into its barrel.

On another occasion, he managed to get upright on his board as he rode it calmly into the bubbling white water.

At the end of his session, the Moneyball actor carried his surfboard above his head as he made his way out of the water and back towards the shore with his pal.

Hill has been very open about his newfound love of the sport, and made a post to his Instagram account in November featuring him posing next to pro surfer Mick Fanning and a group of their friends.

The photo was taken at the Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California, which is run by former surfing world champion Kelly Slater; the park features an artificial wave pool that creates consistently good waves.

The caption for the post partially read: ‘We all got tested and came down. It was one of the best days of my life.’

The actor added: ‘Thanks to all my friends who got me into surfing. It’s been one of the most positive additions to my life. I’m forever grateful.’

Better together: In November, the actor met up with a number of other surfers, including pro Mick Fanning, to test out the artificial wave pool at Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch

In a conversation with Fanning for World Surf League, Hill noted that his ultimate goal was simply to be confident enough in himself as a surfer to go and enjoy the waves by himself.

He stated: ‘My whole goal was just “can I go surf by myself? Can I go surf a spot by myself and stand up on waves?” That’s it! That was like, “if I can do that, that’s my life’s goal from now on.”‘

The actor later spoke about how the circumstances of his life up to the point of the interview had caused him to rethink his priorities and overcome his past fear of judgement for his lack of ability on a surfboard.

Hill said: ‘You kind of realize life’s too short, and August fifth of last year was the first day I ever went surfing…and I’ve surfed at least five days a week every day since then.’

Hanging ten: Hill later posted a video of himself riding in the barrel of one of the artificially produced waves at the Ranch
