Hilaria and Alec Baldwin welcomed their sixth child via SURROGATE

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin welcomed their sixth child via surrogate, a source has confirmed to DailyMail.com, just two days after the couple shocked the world with news of the baby’s arrival six months after the yoga guru gave birth to their fifth child Eduardo.

The couple announced the surprise arrival of the baby girl on Monday, posting an image of the newborn with her mother and siblings – but sharing no other information about her identity or her birth, prompting some critics to accuse them of ‘attention-seeking.’

The announcement kicked off furious speculation over the circumstances of baby Lucia’s birth, which led SNL star Alec, 62, to unleash a profanity-filled rant at Instagram users who urged him to reveal the identity of the child’s mother while accusing him and his wife, 37, of sharing images of the baby girl as ‘clickbait’.

Alec, whose wife suffered two miscarriages in 2019, slammed several people who questioned Lucia’s paternity on Monday, telling one commenter to ‘shut the f*** up’ when they asked about the arrival of his youngest child.

But though the actor refused to take the bait when questioned by Instagram commenters, a source has now revealed that Lucia was, in fact, welcomed via surrogate.

The identity of the surrogate is not known, and a spokesperson for the couple declined to comment on the details of Lucia’s conception and birth.

How does surrogacy work and how much does it cost?

Surrogacy is when a woman carries a baby for a couple who are unable to conceive or carry a child themselves.

The process can cost upwards of $100,000 for a couple, depending on the exact procedure they choose.

Couples who opt to welcome a child via a surrogate may include those who have suffered recurrent miscarriages, repeated IVF failures, premature menopause or a hysterectomy.

The risks of being a surrogate mother are the same as for every pregnancy, and include nausea, heart burn and back ache.

In extreme cases, surrogates can suffer high blood pressure or gestational diabetes.

Straight surrogacy

This involves using the surrogate’s egg and the intended father’s sperm.

It is the least expensive and simplest form of the procedure.

Host surrogacy

Host surrogacy requires IVF with either the intended mother’s eggs or donor eggs rather than those of the surrogate.

In this case, the surrogate is genetically unrelated to the baby.

Donor eggs can be from friends or relatives, or anonymously donated.

What are the laws?

The laws around surrogacy vary from state to state, however across the majority of the US surrogacy is legal for all parents, but may be ‘dependent on various factors or venue’.

In some states, parents are required to carry out additional post-birth legal procedures with their surrogate to define the terms of the agreement, and the paternity of the child.

Surrogacy in the US can cost upwards of $100,000, depending on the options used by the parents and their surrogate.

In New York state, where Hilaria and Alec live, paid gestational surrogacy – in which a surrogate receives payment from a couple in return for carrying their baby – was only made legal from February of this year as per legislation that was passed in April 2020.

If Alec and Hilaria chose to use a ‘host’ surrogate – which is when a woman carries an embryo from the mother’s egg and the father’s sperm – Hilaria will have had to undergo IVF ahead of the egg retrieval.

This could well have been done before she conceived her son Eduardo in late 2019; she and Alec could also have made the decision to freeze eggs, sperm, or fertilized embryos, which could also have been used in the surrogacy.

However, if Hilaria and Alec chose to do a ‘straight’ surrogacy, this will have meant that the surrogate’s egg was used, along with the SNL star’s sperm.

Couples who choose surrogacy also have the option to use a donor egg instead of one from their surrogate.

It is likely that Lucia was conceived in mid-2020, although her exact age has not yet been shared. Her brother Eduardo, who is six months old, was likely conceived in December 2019, one month after Hilaria suffered her second miscarriage.

Instagram followers had plenty of questions when Alec and Hilaria first revealed Lucia’s arrival, given that she came so shortly after the birth of baby Eduardo six months ago.

Hilaria, who has always heavily documented each of her pregnancies – and miscarriages – hadn’t said anything about being pregnant again, and of course, the six months between Eduardo and Lucia’s births were not enough to bring a baby to term.

But though Hilaria has been remarkably open about her pregnancies, she and Alec kept their surrogacy journey a secret, and have still refused to comment on it publicly.

Alec, meanwhile, has gone so far as to tell off those who have begged for details in more impolite terms.

He had strong words for a commenter who wrote ‘yikes’ beneath the photo that he shared of his wife and their six children: Carmen, seven, Rafael, five, Leonardo, four, Romeo, two, Eduardo, six months, and newborn Lucia.

‘I believe that people should simply say “Congratulations” or just shut the f**k up. That’s it,’ Alec wrote, before ultimately deleting the comment.

‘Who’s the mother?’ asked another commenter. ‘She wasn’t pregnant. She gave birth six months ago. If it was a surrogate just say that. If the baby was adopted just say that. If the baby was a product of an affair and you’ve decided to raise it with your wife just say that.

‘If you don’t want to say anything – why don’t you both stop constantly posting and begging for clickbait. Just raise your 100 children in private.’

In a since-deleted reply, Alec furiously clapped back, writing: ‘You should shut the f*** up and mind your own business.’

A timeline of Alec and Hilaria’s youngest child

April 2019: Hilaria revealed to the world that she had suffered a first-trimester miscarriage

November 2019: The yoga guru shared that she had experienced a second miscarriage, four months into her pregnancy

December 2019: Alec and Hilaria likely conceived their fifth child Eduardo around this time

April 2020: Hilaria announces that she is pregnant with the couple’s fifth baby

Summer 2020: Lucia’s conception likely took place midway through the year, although it is not known whether Alec and Hilaria used their own egg and sperm, or chose to rely on donors. If they used Hilaria’s egg, she will have had to undergo IVF ahead of the retrieval. She could have done this before conceiving Eduardo

March 2021: The couple announce the arrival of sixth child Lucia, who was carried via a surrogate

It is unclear whether the couple enlisted the services of a surrogate before Hilaria became pregnant with Eduardo.

Though Eduardo, as the older of the two new babies, had to have been conceived before Lucia, the surrogacy process may have already been well underway by the time Hilaria was expecting him.

Hilaria has also suffered several miscarriages in the past, and publicly shared her grief when she lost a pregnancy at 10 weeks in April of 2019 and another at 16 weeks in November of 2019.

Eduardo was her first pregnancy after these miscarriages, and it is possible that the couple started the surrogacy process fearing that she would lose that pregnancy as well.

Lucia, like her five older siblings, has been given a Spanish moniker – however, unlike the other Baldwin children, the reveal of the newborn’s name comes in the wake of furious controversy about Hilaria’s fake Spanish heritage.

It is not known whether Hilaria and Alec were planning for their new arrival when the scandal broke in December with a viral Twitter thread detailing the wellness expert’s faux European background.

The latest addition to the brood is Alec and Hilaria’s sixth child together – however, the actor also has another daughter, 25-year-old model Ireland, with his ex-wife Kim Basinger.

The couple’s social media posts were met with intrigue – and even anger – from the couple’s followers, many of whom urged the couple to share more information, and even criticized them over their handling of the reveal.

Again: Alec has lost temper in public on several occasions, and in December told one who called his wife a fraud to ‘shut the f**k up’ as well

Alec appears to have deleted his more profane responses, though this is hardly the first time he has come under fire for expletive-filled rants.

As recently as December, Alec attacked a critic who called his wife Hilaria a ‘fraud’ in the comments of an Instagram post.

When a commenter quipped, ‘Like your wife being Spanish when she lived in Massachusetts her entire life. I take it her accent is fake as well? FRAUDS!’ Alec replied: ‘Go f**k yourself.’

In a video rant that month, he also said that Twitter is ‘a lot of s***’, adding: ‘You have to kind of hack your way through the debris of Twitter. Twitter is just a vast orchard of cr**.

This behavior goes back several years. In 2016, he was caught in a foul-mouthed tirade at a photographer trying to take photos of him in a public place.

‘You’re a piece of trash,’ he yelled, along with several expletives. ‘Stay away from my wife.’ As the photographer tried to reason with the actor, Alec got in his face and yelled back at the top of his voice: ‘Shut up! You’re a piece of garbage!’

In 2018, he was arrested for allegedly punching a New Yorker who stole his parking spot in a expletive-filled outburst.

Sources say one of Alec’s family members was holding the spot when Wojciech Cieszkowski, 49, of Pearl River, New York, driving a black Saab station wagon pulled into the spot, according to Page Six.

The two men got into an argument, and when Cieszkowski headed to the meter to pay, Baldwin allegedly bolted up to him and punched him. Police said the two pushed each other before Baldwin got aggressive.

A witness told DailyMail.com that Baldwin yelled ‘d*** off’ during the fight. Alec has denied punching Cieszkowski.

While Alec has been responding to critics with colorful language this week, his wife is slowly sharing more details about the surprise arrival.

‘We are so in love with our daughter, Lucia. Just like your brothers and sisters, you are a dream come true,’ the Boston-born yoga guru wrote on Instagram — but kept her comments turned off.

Hilaria also shared several images of Lucia settling into Baldwin family life, sharing one photo of Alec cradling the baby girl in his arm while helping daughter Carmen with her math homework.

‘Teaching the baby math homework and funny faces… welcome to being a Baldwin,’ she captioned the snap.

She later joked that the couple’s ‘bed is getting rather crowded’, before posting another photo of baby Lucia sleeping soundly on the mattress alongside her brother Edu – while another of her siblings is seen snoozing on the floor.

‘Watching these three,’ Hilaria wrote alongside the picture, before adding three hearts.

Hilaria has only made a return to regularly posting on social media in recent weeks, after issuing an apology for faking her Spanish heritage following weeks of furious controversy over the scandal. Since her Instagram comeback, the comments on her posts have been turned off.

The influencer, whose given name is Hillary Hayward-Thomas, finally said ‘sorry’ for the saga in a post shared to her Instagram account on February 5 – six weeks after a Twitter thread about her faux European background went viral.

Hilaria stopped short of confessing she had misled people about her Spanish roots instead doubling down on her previous claims that she was raised ‘with two cultures, American and Spanish’ and that she feels ‘a true sense of belonging to both’.

In a caption alongside a photo of her with Alec and their five children, she wrote: ‘I’ve spent the last month listening, reflecting, and asking myself how I can learn and grow.

‘My parents raised my brother and me with two cultures, American and Spanish, and I feel a true sense of belonging to both.

‘The way I’ve spoken about myself and my deep connection to two cultures could have been better explained – I should have been more clear and I’m sorry.

‘I’m proud of the way I was raised, and we’re raising our children to share the same love and respect for both.

‘Being vulnerable and pushing ourselves to learn and grow is what we’ve built our community on, and I hope to get back to the supportive and kind environment we’ve built together,’ she said.

At the end of December, it emerged that Hilaria – who in the past claimed to have grown up in Majorca and spoke with a Spanish accent – actually spent her childhood in Beacon Hill, Boston, and went by Hillary.

It started with a single tweet on December 21 which read: ‘You have to admire Hilaria Baldwin’s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person’.

The woman then continued to post videos and proof of how Hilaria’s accent has changed over the years.

Several former classmates came forward to confirm that Hilaria was in fact raised in Weston, Massachusetts, by American parents without a hint of a foreign accent.

In the wake of the scandal, Hilaria took a break from social media and retreated to the Baldwins’ home in East Hampton, where she was staying with her children, while Alec was renting a nearby property so that he could quarantine away from his family and commute back and forth to the city for work.

Since apologizing for the scandal on social media, Hilaria has been sharing much more regular updates, frequently posting candid images and videos of life at home with Alec and the kids – however she made no hints that the couple were planning to welcome a sixth child into their brood.

On Wednesday, she shared a sweet video of herself working out alongside her son Edu, one day after posting a clip of them cuddling in bed, describing the tot as her ‘rainbow’ – a term used to describe a child born after a mother suffers a miscarriage.

Hilaria first revealed that she had lost her unborn baby in April 2019, when she took to social media to document her miscarriage in a series of very candid photos and videos, the first of which showed her posing in her underwear, alongside a caption which read: ‘I want to share with you that I am most likely experiencing a miscarriage.’

Hilaria went on to document subsequent doctors’ appointments, and even shared selfies from her D&C procedure.

In November of that same year, she revealed that she’d had a second miscarriage, four months into her pregnancy, once again sharing the news on Instagram alongside an image of herself and daughter Carmen.

‘We are very sad to share that today we learned that our baby passed away at 4 months,’ she wrote. ‘We also want you to know that even though we are not ok right now, we will be. We are so lucky with our 4 healthy babies – and we will never lose sight of this.

‘I’m really devastated right now… I was not expecting this when I went to my scan today. I don’t know what else to say.’

The couple then announced that they were expecting their fifth child in April 2020, however the arrival of a sixth baby is not something that either have addressed publicly, although Hilaria stated in November of last year that it ‘felt very much’ like they were ‘done’ expanding their family.

‘It very much feels like we’re done,’ she told People one month after giving birth to Edu when asked if she was hoping to have more children.

However the wellness expert admitted that she would never say never, joking that she had thought she was ‘done’ in the past – only for the couple to decide that they wanted to expand their family further.

‘Everybody’s asking me this question,’ she continued. ‘I don’t know. I’ve said in the past that I was done when I wasn’t done.

‘I think, right now, I’m so tired. And I feel, just with COVID, it’s just insanity. Right now, during times of COVID, it very much feels like we’re done.’

She added that her children have all grown accustomed to ‘new siblings coming in’, revealing that they were already asking her ‘when the next one is going to come’.

But while Hilaria has previously been very open about her motherhood journey – documenting her pregnancy on Instagram, and sharing intimate details about both of her miscarriages – both she and Alec have kept the news of their youngest arrival very much under wraps.
