To ensure both people on the date have equal control, Hinge will give £50 to each of the aspiring lovers.

Hinge is one of the most popular dating apps in Britain, combining the swiping of rival apps like Tinder with a more personal approach, asking in-depth questions.

Tinder will roll out a background check feature in 2021

Tinder, along with all dating apps owned by Match Group, will soon let users vet potential dates prior to meeting them in person – but for a fee.

Match group announced a partnership with the non-profit background check platform Garbo Monday, which will be integrated into Tinder and other dating apps like OKCupid and Match.

The cost of the service has yet to be revealed, but the average fee for a national criminal background check is about $7 to $15 per request.

The £50 per person will only be given to users if they organise a first in-person date this, between April 12 and 18. Hinge anticipates 50,000 dates will take place in the UK this week.

Users are encouraged to observe coronavirus rules and take suitable safety precautions, such as avoiding getting too cosy and following social distancing.

After their first date, singles who want to go on a follow-up soirée must log back onto the app after 2pm BST on April 19 and report their first date via the ‘We Met’ feature.

Once a Hinge user has done this, Hinge will email instructions for receiving the £50 gift card that can be used for a second date.

The e vouchers will be sent out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hinge says 75 per cent of its users do decide to go on a second date with someone they have matched with on the app.

Each person must go through this process to get the £50 voucher, so both partners must do it in order to get the maximum £100.

Hinge says that, according to its own research, more than half (54 per cent) of users pay up to £50 on a first date.

Hinge has also today rolled out its ‘Video Prompts’ feature which it says is a unique virtual dating tool which will allow daters to kick start conversations.
