How Eddie McGuire used to skip nightclub queues before finding fame

The secret tactic Eddie McGuire used to skip nightclub queues before finding fame during his early twenties – as clubbing buddy lifts the lid on his wild party years

Eddie McGuire’s former colleague and clubbing buddy Brigitte Duclos has shared fond memories of their wild nights partying together.

Speaking to the Sacked Showbiz podcast, Brigitte, 55, revealed how Eddie’s sheer confidence helped them skip the queues to enter Melbourne’s hottest nightclubs during their early twenties, years before they were famous.

‘Eddie was hilarious. We used to go to a nightclub, this is when he was 21, and there’d be a big queue,’ said Brigitte, who previously worked with Eddie at Network Ten and Triple M.

‘And he’d say, ‘Come on,’ and we’d go right to the front of the queue and no one knew who he was,’ the former Gold FM presenter recalled.

‘He’d say, ‘My face is my medallion’, and he’s bloody well right, and we’d get in everywhere.’

At age 21, the journalist landed her first sports reporter job after Eddie hired her to join his team at Network Ten.

She also nabbed a newsreader job on Triple M in 1992 thanks to a glowing recommendation by Eddie.

Brigitte’s interview comes days after Eddie broadcasted his final Triple M breakfast radio show on Friday, after 11 years on-air.

In August, Eddie told the Herald Sun that his mother’s death had prompted decision to step down from his popular radio show.

He also revealed that his co-host Luke Darcy, who also quit the show, had experienced a similar loss when his father David died that same month.

‘Darce’s father was such a great friend of the show, and so well loved. My mum passed away two days later, but we knew it was imminent. My view is, if you don’t learn from this year, you won’t learn from much,’ Eddie said.

The former Nine CEO explained that he had been ‘hurting for a while’ with the weight of the decision, but realised the early alarms, daily commitments and the feeling of ‘jet lag’ was pointing towards his need to ‘reflect and recharge’.
