He’s in Sydney filming fantasy-romance movie Three Thousand Years of Longing.

But Idris Elba took a well-deserved break on Sunday when he decided to surprise fans on stage at a Lime Cordiale gig at the Enmore Theatre in Newtown.

The actor, 48, sent fans into a frenzy as he sang Unnecessary Things with the Aussie duo, before performing a rap he’d written to accompany a new, unreleased track.

What a shock! Idris Elba took a well-deserved break from filming on Sunday, and decided to surprise fans on-stage at a Lime Cordiale gig at the Enmore

‘Do you know what a shoey is?’ the band joked as Idris arrived on stage, referring to the bizarre Australian ritual of drinking a beer out a shoe.

Lime Cordiale consists of brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach, who formed the band in 2009 in their home city of Sydney.

Music promoter Michael Chugg said Idris and the band had recently been in the studio, where they wrote and recorded several tracks together.

‘He is absolutely in love with their music,’ Mr Chugg told The Daily Telegraph.

Idris is in Sydney filming Three Thousand Years of Longing alongside Scottish actress Tilda Swinton.

The film, which is being directed by George Miller of Mad Max: Fury Road fame, follows a scholar (Swinton) who encounters a genie (Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom.

Their conversation in a hotel room in Istanbul leads to consequences neither would have expected.

In addition to this project, there are rumours Idris could be starring in the new Marvel film Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth.

His character Heimdall was last seen in Avengers: Infinity War, where he was disposed of by Thanos.

However, he could potentially reprise his role in a flashback or dream sequence.

Could it be? Away from his new project, it's also rumoured that Idris could be returning to star in the new Marvel epic Thor: Love and Thunder, alongside Byron Bay local Chris Hemsworth
