I’m A Celebrity winner Giovanna Fletcher reflects on gaining body confidence

After years of yo-yo dieting and building a wardrobe of six different sizes, Giovanna Fletcher confirmed she’s finally learnt to love the skin she’s in and is in ‘awe’.

The Queen of the I’m A Celebrity Castle, 35, confessed that she struggled with her body image from the age of nine, but giving birth to her oldest son, Buzz, six, made her love her curves.

She recently discussed focusing on the positive instead of the negative as she looks ahead to exciting opportunities in the future, including a possible duet with her husband, Tom.

Confidence: After years of yo-yo dieting and building a wardrobe of six different sizes, Giovanna Fletcher confirmed she’s finally learnt to love the skin she’s in and is in ‘awe’

Speaking to The Sun on Saturday, she reflected on her body insecurities: I remember being on Frinton beach when I was about nine and seeing stretch marks on my thighs. I was always the tubbier one.

‘Compared to my brother and sister who were like sticks, I was much curvier.’

According to Giovanna, from a young age she became aware that she was ‘chubby’, and she began to perceive any comments about her body as negative.

The author confessed to developing a dysfunctional relationship with food and revealed she would diet endlessly as a result of not feeling worthy.

Giovanna confirmed she now has six different sizes in her wardrobe due to her fluctuating weight, so she was more than prepared for any weight loss during her stint on I’m A Celebrity last year.

After being rationed to 700-calories-a-day on the show, the mother-of-three joked that she was soon back to normal after been gifted mountains of sweet treats and desserts in celebration of her victory.

Despite winning the hearts of millions of viewers thanks to her resilience and kind heart, Giovanna added that she used to ‘punish’ her body to make herself feel ‘acceptable’.

And when she suffered a devastating miscarriage in 2012, she found the tragedy amplified the negative thoughts surrounding her body.

Giovanna added: ‘The miscarriage shook me in many ways and left me with even more resentment towards my body. There was so much anger, I just felt it had failed me.’

However, that all changed when she went on to conceive her first son, Buzz, in 2014.

Now the proud parent of three boys, including Buddy, four, and Max, two, Giovanna said she has learnt to love and appreciate her figure.

She continued: ‘But when I was pregnant with Buzz, I felt so womanly, I loved my curves and what my body was doing. It was the first time I felt like I could celebrate my body because it was doing an amazing thing.’

There to support her journey into motherhood and self acceptance, her husband Tom, 35, has been by her side.

During a separate interview with the publication, the McFly singer showed his appreciation for his wife by suggesting they might team up for a duet in the future.

He said: ‘The band has always been my priority. But we love singing with each other. We’ve done Youtube videos before for fun, so who knows?’

Having worked together on the Eve Of Man Trilogy book series, Tom hinted that it’s only a matter of time before they collaborate on music.

He added: ‘We have talked about duetting before. It’s just time. We’d have to find something that excited us both.’
