I’m A Celebrity winner Giovanna Fletcher says she proved mothers ‘can do anything’

She was crowned the first queen of the castle as the first ever UK series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! came to a close on Friday night.

And Giovanna Fletcher said she felt like she has proved mothers are ‘strong’ and can ‘do anything’ after she was crowned as the winner of I’m A Celebrity 2020.

On Saturday’s episode of I’m a Celebrity… The Daily Drop, the author, 35, said: ‘Without mums nothing else is possible’, before gushing over how excited she is to cuddle her beloved kids and her McFly star husband Tom.

Giovanna continued: ‘So I feel like I showed that mums can do anything and mostly I hope I made my kids proud. I guess I’ll find that out when I get home.’

She went on to explain that her victory has still not ‘sunk in’ and ‘does not feel real’, saying that it is the ‘most bizarre thing’ ever.

Speaking via video link on the episode, she continued: ‘No, it hasn’t sunk in. I don’t think it’s going to sink in for a little while. It’s the most bizarre thing ever.

‘We’ve been in a castle for three weeks and now there are people, I’ve got a crown on my head. It doesn’t feel real at all.’

Giovanna is preparing to head home and reunite with her husband, McFly’s Tom, 35, and her three sons – Buzz, six, Buddy, four, and two-year-old Max.

But she quipped that after ‘a few tantrums’ she will be ‘wishing to be back in castle life’, before lovingly gushing that she cannot wait to go back to ‘normality’.

The blogger said: ‘Tomorrow back into it all with a bang. Give it a few tantrums and I’ll be wishing to be back in castle life.’

She continued: ‘Soon as I’m home I’m just going to have loads of kisses and cuddles and immerse myself back into reality.

‘And just normality, normal life. It feels weird because we don’t know what’s going on in the world.’

The mother-of-three has predicted that her children will want to play games inspired by I’m A Celebrity’s gruesome trials after watching her on the hit reality TV show.

Speaking about their reaction to her victory, she explained: ‘I can just imagine their little faces now. I imagine the older two have stayed up and watched. They’re not going to believe it.

‘I can already imagine that trials are happening at home. We’re going to be taking inspiration from them and making up games. If they’ve not already. I can imagine snakes being made and all sorts.’

Giovanna quickly became known amongst her fellow campmates as the ‘mum’ of the celebrities during her stint at Gwrych Castle in North Wales.

But Giovanna said that she could have turned to ‘anyone’ for support in the camp, revealing that she shared many ‘really nice hugs’ with Victoria Derbyshire during their three weeks in the camp.

However, she admitted that she found it very ‘difficult’ whenever ‘home’ was brought up by the other campmates, saying that she tried to ‘compartmentalise’ her feelings.

She continued: ‘I found it difficult any time home was brought into the equation. I feel like I can compartmentalise in a strange way – this is what I’m doing…

‘I’ve got to make the most of it and have fun because home will still be there when I get out and I’ll love that then – but anytime there were treats from home, that was really tough not getting that.

‘But every camp mate, you can turn to anyone. And anyone will give you a hug or a wise and comforting word. Vic interestingly, we’ve found that we hug in a really nice way – we hug and sway.

‘That’s our way of hugging and reassuring each other. Just having those hugs has been amazing.’

Despite missing her family, Giovanna still fell in love with her experience on I’m A Celebrity, admitting that she did not expect to have ‘as much fun’ as she did.

Speaking about her favourite parts of camp life, she said: ‘Everything. I think when you go into it, you don’t know what it’s going to be like and what those 11 other people are going to be like and what they’re going to make of you or anything like that.

‘I didn’t expect to have as much fun. It’s been a strange year for everyone and the biggest part was human connection; the hugs, the chats.

‘We got deep and serious sometimes, other times it was just absolutely ridiculous and talking about body parts and ridiculous things. You just never knew what was going to come – and pub night was insane.’

Her fellow finalists Jordan North and Vernon Kay were quick to agree that the camp was filled with 12 ‘amazing’ personalities and described the experience as ‘magical’.

TV presenter Vernon, 46, said: ‘It’s been an amazing camp, a camp of 12 different personalities, 12 different people who’ve really brought something special.

‘Every single person brought something special to camp and I think that’s why it’s been so magical for us all.’

He went on to explain that everyone was an ‘open book’ in the camp, crediting that as the reason that they all got on so well as an entire group.

Vernon, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly, 51, said his children told him to go in and ‘have fun’ and ‘play around’ in the I’m A Celebrity castle – just like he enjoys doing at home.

He said: ‘The advice the kids gave me was, “Daddy, all you’ve got to do is have fun and games, just play around”. So I did that. We love fun and games at home. The key to it is just be yourself.

‘If you go in there with a persona that isn’t you, you get found out straight away.

‘Everyone was an open book, everyone had something to say, everyone had an opinion, but it was an opinion that was taken on by everyone else and we embraced it and we took it on board and we talked about it.

‘That’s why it was such a serene camp I think.’

He shares two daughters, Phoebe, 16, and Amber, 11, with his wife of 17 years, and the couple keep their children’s lives extremely private.

And speaking about his time in the castle, fellow finalist Jordan said that he was ‘really proud’ of himself for making it all the way to the end of the series.

The radio host, 30, who was notoriously scared of everything in the I’m A Celebrity trials, said he has been able to become ‘braver and stronger’ by going on the show.

He continued: ‘I’m really proud of myself. It’s over the past couple of days I’ve been able to give myself a bit of credit and think, maybe I am a bit brave and maybe I am a bit stronger than I think.

‘The journey I came on. I was scared of everything. Now, I feel like I can take – not everything – but more things.’

The fan-favourite was also surprised with a video message from Burnley manager Sean Dyche while appearing on I’m A Celebrity… The Daily Drop.

A stunned Jordan said: ‘Sean Dyche called me mate! That feels great. That just means the world to me. That’s a great gift. I love that guy.’
