I’m A Celebrity’s Vernon Kay is sending signals to wife Tess Daly by ‘touching his left ear’

He’s settling into camp life and entertained viewers on Sunday with his attempt at spelling alongside pal Russell Watson.

And Vernon Kay, 46, has been reassuring his family he is doing ok by sending them secret signals from inside the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp in Wales.

The radio star’s wife Tess Daly, 51, has revealed on Instagram that he is ‘touching his left ear’ as a ‘signal’ to her during his time on the hit ITV show.

Tess explained what was happening in the comments to one of her posts supporting Vernon on the series.

She had shared a video of him during Friday’s live trial coming up to the camera and waving as he mouthed ‘hello Amber, hello Phoebe’ as a shout-out to their daughters.

The Strictly Come Dancing host captioned her post: ‘Loved Vernon waving hello to Phoebe & Amber tonight! So sweet they loved it!’ 

And in the comments to the clip, Tess explained that she also has a system worked out with Vernon for him to send signs.

She wrote: ‘Ant had to move him on for the next live trial. He touches his left ear as a signal for me. I’m delighted for the girls were made up! Xx’ 

Tess also revealed that Vernon’s mention and wave to their daughters ‘made their day’ in another comment.

‘They were so happy because it was the first time they were watching together it’s been a bit late for AMBER but it’s Friday night so she was allowed up! Made their day (and mine!),’ Tess explained.

It was previously reported that Vernon was sending ‘secret signals’ to his wife of 17 years by wearing a piece of jewellery she bought him. 

While appearing on the programme, Vernon has been sporting an eye-catching Elvis Presley-inspired ring, which is a nod to his beloved wife Tess. 

Vernon, who is a huge fan of the King of Rock and Roll, has previously spoken about the ring and told how it was a gift from Tess on their wedding anniversary.  

In an interview in 2010, Vernon said: ‘The most romantic thing Tess has done for me was for our wedding anniversary.

‘I’m a huge Elvis Presley fan and when he first signed his record deal he bought himself a pinky ring with a lucky horseshoe on it.’  

He added: ‘I had a really bad fake copy of it from Graceland, but she took it to a Hatton Garden jeweller and had a white gold version made with real diamonds.

‘It’s quality! I couldn’t believe it when she had it made. It only ever comes out on themed nights, though.’ 

Vernon also spoke candidly about his marriage to Tess on Saturday’s best bits episode, revealing they secretly renewed their wedding vows five years ago.

The presenting duo originally wed in 2003 and have daughters Phoebe and Amber. 

Tess then took to Instagram to share a never-before-seen snap from the day, of them posing with their children. 

In the image, Vernon, now 46, and Tess, now 51, stand behind their kids, Tess looking stunning in a plunging cream dress.

Phoebe and Amber wear matching sparkling dresses and carry white roses, like their mother. Vernon looks sharp in a grey suit and tie. 

‘So sweet listening to Vern recount the story of surprising me with renewing our vows,’ Tess captioned the image. ‘Here’s a picture from that special day ❤️’ 

Chatting to camp-mates Giovanna Fletcher and Jessica Plummer, Vernon was asked by Giovanna – who was discussing her marriage to McFly crooner Tom Fletcher – if he would ever renew his vows. 

‘We have done, we did it in France, about five years ago,’ he revealed. ‘I booked a weekend in our favourite hotel in the South Of France and I spoke to [Tess’] stylist at the time and I said I needed four dresses.

‘[Tess] didn’t know anything. I said I needed four dresses and I gave her a card and it said congratulations on your second wedding day and I said we’re going to renew our vows.

‘She said, ‘I’ve got nothing to wear,’ and I said. ‘you say that… pick one!’

‘We went to reception and her Mum, my parents, the kids and my brother were waiting and she was like ‘oh my God! We had such a lovely day!’

This romantic story moved Jessica, who said afterwards in the Telegraph: ‘It’s incredible that Vernon arranged in secret the renewal of his vows. It’s like a fairy tale!’

Giovanna also commented: ‘Vernon’s story is absolutely romantic and wonderful and thoughtful. I mean, Tom, if you’re watching…’

Tess and Vernon celebrated their 17-year wedding anniversary on September 12. They wed at St Mary’s Church in Horwich in 2003.

Their marriage hit a speed bump in 2010, however, when Vernon was caught sexting glamour model Rhian Sugden.

Vernon pursued Rhian on Twitter, text and email for four months, with the blonde later claiming he also tried to set up a secret liaison with her in a hotel room. 

Afterwards, she assured Tess that they never met up alone and it was nothing more than a ‘close friendship and flirty messages’. She concluded with offering her ‘sincerest apologies’ and wishing the both of them happiness for the future.

Vernon was famously forced to make a public apology to Tess on BBC Radio 1 back in 2010 after the saucy messages came to light.

He went on to promise live on air that he would no longer contact Rhian or the four other women he had been caught messaging at the time.

It was then revealed the pair had got back in touch in 2015 with Vernon sending hundreds of texts asking to ‘reconnect’ with the model.

Rhian claimed earlier this year that the scandal ruined her career in an interview with The Sun.

The model, 33, lamented the fact that the presenter ‘got away with it’ after publicly apologising to his wife.
