Inside Floyd Mayweather’s pandemic 44th birthday bash: Boxer hosts epic party

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather held an epic 44th birthday bash in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday night, despite the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.

The sporting icon joined a legion of all-star pals at The Venue club, to celebrate the day – which he named Floyd’s Futuristic 44th Birthday Extravaganza – and attended while dripping in millions of dollars of diamonds.

TMZ report that guests at the 32,000 square ft venue followed coronavirus protocol by receiving temperature checks at the door, however images from the event saw many guests, including Rick Ross, failing to wear face coverings, while social distancing did not seem to be in place at intervals through the evening.

The Venue, which has previously featured on TLC’s Four Weddings, My Sweet 15 & MTV’s Super Sweet 16, is described on its website as: ‘An elegant mansion wedding venue in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A martini bar, ballroom, lounge and patio all offer luxurious settings to share vows.’

In his classic style, Floyd ensured the event was a true extravaganza, with one of his cakes featuring a motif of dollar bills with his face adorned upon them, a private jet and a Louis Vuitton-inspired trunk made of icing.

A legion of scantily-clad hosts zipped around on rollerblades and helped serve the delicious food and drink.

Custom cocktails were available and listed in a gold frame, with a Limitless containing tequila, grapefruit and lime, Futuristic 44 containing rum, orange, cranberry and pineapple and the birthday boy cocktail, the Mayweather Mule, comprising vodka, ginger ale and lime.

‘Creating an emergency plan for mass gatherings and large community events can help protect you and the health of your event participants and local community’.

Prior to his birthday festivities, Floyd’s exhibition fight in Tokyo this month has been postponed because of coronavirus restrictions. He was scheduled to fight against an unnamed opponent at Tokyo Dome on February 28, but organisers pulled the plug with Japan’s borders closed to almost all foreign arrivals.

Tokyo and other parts of Japan are under a virus state of emergency that is set to end on March 7, with attendance at sports events limited to 5,000 or half capacity, whichever is less.

His fight against YouTuber Logan Paul, which was scheduled for February 20, was also postponed last month.

Floyd, who fought a Japanese kickboxer in a widely ridiculed 2018 exhibition in Japan, said he hopes the Tokyo Dome event, dubbed ‘Mega 2021,’ can be rescheduled ‘within the year.’

He said: ‘Japan currently has an increase in infections, and I heard that foreigners aren’t allowed into the country. So it’s really disappointing, but there’s no way I can fight in Japan on February 28. When I’m allowed into Japan, and if Mega gets a new date and a venue, and if they give me an opponent, I can be ready to fight any time.’

At his birthday, Floyd spoke to press about the delayed fight with Jake Paul, saying: ‘I know it’s going to happen. We just want make sure everything is right and everything is where it should be.’
