‘It was fantastic’: Jack Vidgen hints what the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! cast members got paid to appear on the show

Jack Vidgen tried his best not to give anything away during an interview with The Kyle & Jackie O Show on Monday.

The 24-year-old newly eliminated I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant appeared on the radio show, where he was asked about the pay.

Determined not to say too much, Jack simply said the pay was ‘fantastic’ after the devastating toll of the coronavirus pandemic on the entertainment industry.

But host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson wanted to talk numbers, and asked Jack if his pay packet was ‘under a $100,000 or over a $100,000’.

‘I’m not going to tell you. I signed things and I can’t say! I’ll lose all the money if I tell you,’ Jack responded bluntly.

After acknowledging that she ‘tried’ Jackie, 45, reluctantly moved on.

The pay packets of the stars who appear on I’m A Celebrity are renowned for being shrouded in secrecy.

It was rumoured that Shane Warne, who appeared on the hit reality show back in 2016, was paid a whopping $1million for his appearance.

Earlier this month, the show’s executive producer, Alex Mavroidakis, defended the decision to pay the retired cricketer such an eye-watering amount.

Mr Mavroidakis told the TV Reload podcast the 51-year-old ‘wasn’t a waste of money’ at all because the viewers he brought with him more than justified his salary.

He explained the show needed a marquee star to boost ratings after the first season of I’m A Celebrity hadn’t quite lived up to expectations.

‘[Season one] just about did enough for people to be talking about it, but it needed a prestige name for series two to drag people back to the format,’ Mr Mavroidakis said.

‘We put Warnie in on episode two, we teased him through the launch and put him in episode two.

‘I think it launched at 1.1 million and episode two did 890,000 or 900,000. Then you are off and running. There is your million dollars, he just paid for himself.’

Meanwhile, Jack was the first celebrity to be eliminated from this year’s show, with the singer unceremoniously ejected out of his chair and into a pond during Sunday’s episode.

'I'm not going to tell you. I signed things and I can't say! I'll lose all the money if I tell you,' Jack responded bluntly
