Jamie Redknapp jokes he had a ‘lovely excuse when I was playing football’ to avoid night feeds

Jamie Redknapp has spoken out about fatherhood, joking he had a great excuse to avoid night feeds with his two sons because he was playing football. 

The Sky Sports pundit, 47, is expecting his third child – his first with girlfriend Frida Andersson, 37. 

And in a chat for L’Oreal Men Expert Father’s Day Campaign with Peter Crouch and Jermaine Jenas, who is expecting his fourth child, Jamie talked about being a dad. 

Jamie is father to sons Charley, 16, and Beau, 12, whom he co-parents with his ex-wife Louise. 

Jamie agreed with his pals the secret to parenting is ‘winging it’. 

Of how he dealt with night feeds, he said: ‘We had a lovely excuse when we were playing [football]… didn’t really work when I was off injured though.’

Jamie also reflected on his own upbringing with his father, Harry, and when asked by Pete what he was like, the former footballer replied: ‘He wasn’t mad for advice… like the birds and the bees we never had any of that, we never had that discussion.’

Pete, 40, then said, ‘The person who told me the birds and the bees was actually Harry.’

Jamie also said the importance of your friends when you become a dad as he told the pair: ‘you need someone who you can talk to’ with Peter agreeing to ‘take time for your kids, but also take time for yourself’ when asked what his top dad tip was. 

Peter, who has four children with wife Abbey Clancy – Sophia, 10, Liberty, six, Johnny, three, and Jack, two, spoke about how his confidence grew as a father the more children he had. 

He told his pals: ‘With the first one you’re marking everything down…by the fourth you aren’t doing any of that.’ 

Jermaine, 38, meanwhile revealed he’s excited to have a boy join his all-female family. 

The One Show’s host wife Ellie is pregnant with their fourth child. Jamie joked Jermaine ‘won’t be outnumbered anymore’, to which Jermaine responded ‘no, it was always just me and the dog before.’ 

Jermaine shares daughters Geneva, eight, and Olivia, four, with Ellie as well as having daughter Sancha, 14, from a previous relationship.

The trio also donned L’Oreal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Tissue Mask’s during the chat, with Jamie revealing his best grooming tip is beard oil.  

Jamie’s talk about fatherhood comes after it was revealed last month he was expecting his first child with model Frida, nine months after confirming their relationship. 

Frida has four children with her ex-husband American hedge fund manager Jonathan Lourie. 

While they are yet to publicly announce the pregnancy, Frida responded to a series of congratulatory messages in May after sharing a picture of one of her sons, confirming the news.

After one posted ‘Lovely news on your new baby. Congratulations to both,’ the model promptly replied with a thank-you emoji.

She repeated the gesture with as second post, which read: ‘Congratulations on your new baby.’ The couple, who have been linked since August, are said to be ecstatic and the baby is reportedly due in November.

A source told The Sun: ‘Jamie and Frida are absolutely delighted. They’ve been virtually inseparable in lockdown, and their relationship has gone from strength to strength.

‘Jamie’s been telling pals he’s really excited to be a dad again — less excited about the sleepless nights, and ­nappy-changing.’ 

They added that the couple have started telling their ‘nearest and dearest’ about their reported news.

Frida is currently signed to Next Model Management and has previously appeared in content for designer brands such as Escada.
