Jason Manford celebrates 40th birthday with a bang with lavish theatre-themed garden party

Jason Manford celebrated his 40th birthday with a bang by holding a lavish theatre-themed garden party, which featured an art deco cocktail bar, lookalike statue and a string orchestra.

After reaching the milestone on Wednesday, the comedian and West End star waited until the Bank Holiday weekend to host the luxurious bash in which he left no stones unturned in the fun stakes.

Tying in his background in the theatre, his party planner and friend Steph Ledigo created the perfect birthday party to mark the big day in accordance with coronavirus restrictions.

Taking to Instagram on Monday he shared a series of pictures from the extravagant occasion, with the caption: ‘”Don’t go overboard Steph!” When one of your best pals is a party organiser, you know you’re getting the works! Amazing day @stephledigo @go_pr_and_events’.

The impressive party, which benefited from the glorious sunshine over the weekend, featured a luxurious gold cocktail bar with a variety of spirits available to guests.

An incredible spread of cakes and treats were laid out on a red velvet table, including lollipops adorned with posters of productions Jason has featured in such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Guys and Dolls and Sweeney Todd.

Another addition to Jason’s celebration was his lookalike statue, which donned a black suit and bow tie while singing into a microphone.

Two gold theatre masks greeted guests as they walked in and for the children a bouncy castle had been laid on to keep them entertained.

To top off the incredible balloon-filled event, a string quartet had been organised to play for the guests.

Several famous faces took to the comments to compliment Jason’s birthday bash, including former Blue singer Antony Costa, 39, who said: ‘Looks quality mate.’

Other well-known names such as Martine McCutcheon, Ore Oduba, Katherine Kelly and Chris Hoy also shared their appreciation.

It comes weeks after Jason shared a sweet picture of himself meeting up with his nan and giving her the ‘biggest cuddle’ after lockdown restrictions in the UK were eased – allowing people to hug their friends and family again for the first time since the pandemic began.

Jason and his mum Sharon went to visit his grandmother and they took a sweet family snap together, where the funnyman could be seen holding her hand.

In the caption, Jason gushed: ‘Nana Manford! Gave her the biggest cuddle today. This last year has been so hard on her, hoping to make up for lost time!’

Earlier this year the comedian was reported to have doubled his fortune to more than £2m in the space of a year.

He is said to have sold off the large majority of his 10-property empire last year in a bid to settle legal bills from his divorce from first wife Catherine, which was finalised in 2017, according to The Sun.

Father-of-six Jason, who has been married to Lucy Dyke since 2017, raised over £3million in his property sale, but still earned enough profit for his company Gerald Dean Limited to have £2.1million in assets.

His current fortune stands head and shoulders above the £1.1 million in assets he boasted at the end of the previous tax year.

Jason made the most of his early success by snapping up a slew of properties across Greater Manchester, nine of which he rented out.

The Sun reported in May that Jason was selling up to pay off the costs of his divorce from first wife Catherine, thus dissolving his holding company Invisible Man Limited.

A report filed to Companies House revealed: ‘The principal activity of the Company was that of a holding Company which held a portfolio of investment properties.

‘The Company has reached the end of its useful life and it was appropriate to wind the Company up in the form of a Voluntary Liquidation.’

MailOnline contacted a representative for Jason Manford for comment at the time.

Jason was praised in June when he took on the role of an Iceland delivery driver for the day, with the supermarket donating his wages to his chosen charity The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust.

The comic had previously revealed his application to work for rival Tesco had been rejected, after offering his time to join the ‘wartime’ effort during the pandemic.

He joked he was ‘livid’ that Tesco had declined his application and admitted that he was ‘only trying to do his bit’ amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Iceland replied to his tweet offering him work for a day and promising to make a donation to the NHS in his name.

In response to Tesco’s rejection, Jason had posted: ‘Absolutely livid Tesco. I was only trying to do my bit.

He went on to joke that he’ll be keeping an eye on the new employee, and said: ‘I hope the better person got and enjoys the job, I’ll be watching.’

But Iceland stepped in, saying: ‘Our door is always open for you. Help us out for the day and we’ll make a donation to the NHS in your name.’
