‘I have the courage to speak my truth’: Jessica Marais shares a raw open letter about ‘loneliness, death and surviving’ a month after being hospitalised

Jessica Marais shared a heartfelt open letter about ‘loneliness and growth’ to Instagram on Wednesday, after being hospitalised ‘in a distressed state’ in May.

The Packed to the Rafters star told fans she now ‘has the courage to speak my truth’ before reflecting on her positive growth as a person.

‘Help me not to judge this piece of writing. Help me to welcome criticism, bare my soul in honesty and have the power to detach from it,’ the 35-year-old wrote.

The note, which was illegible and incoherent in parts, began: ‘I have the courage to speak my truth. To make decisions based on both ignorance and impulses, advertising my genetic code and my spirit, mindfully and in line with my belief systems… which maybe are preconditioned and undoubtedly shape who I am.

‘Let me honour my emotions and thoughts while recognising that I am not them and challenging them. Let me reach out, but not overlay attach. Let me do all this with[out] being affected, and to the best of my ability, lessening the injury or impact on others and the planet whilst hopefully not offending or conflicting spiritual practice.

‘Help me make adult, task-focused decisions. However, stay present and enjoy the journey and not get lost. Help me to dream but also be realistic. Help me to be my best self. Please grant me the courage to face this day. And whether to buy a tin of beans or a plastic-wrapped vegetable, taking into account my footprint, whilst ultimately being an animal, soul and product myself. Whether to focus on my shell (as it is my present form) or throw caution to the wind and not care….’

The South African-born Australian actress then said that after ’35 years of semi-aliveness’, and despite the help of her parents, she will likely remain ‘uninformed and swayed by exposure’ because of how her ‘brain stores and interprets information’.

Jessica continued by saying she would like to have ‘the wisdom to know whether to cook the vegetables, even though my attitude towards almost every activity including cooking changes’, and then questioned her own loneliness.

She mused: ‘Am I celebrating solitude or re-enforcing loneliness? Solitude sounds much sexier than loneliness. The wisdom to love effortlessly and freely whilst respecting the intricacies and complexities of each other person’s relationships.’

She concluded by asking her followers to help her find the wisdom to know ‘where freedom resides’ and how to ‘survive carelessly’ while ‘not [being] afraid of death, loss, grief, pain, fear, unemployment, love, abandonment and finances’.

Welfare check: Jessica was hospitalised ‘in a distressed state’ in Sydney on May 2. Emergency crews were called to her Coogee home for a welfare check

Jessica was hospitalised ‘in a distressed state’ in Sydney early last month.

Emergency crews were called to her home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for a welfare check on the afternoon of Saturday, May 2.

Jessica was walked to an ambulance where she was put on a gurney and it’s understood she was then taken to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick.

A witness told Daily Mail Australia she was not wearing any shoes, her hair was a ‘dishevelled mess’ and she was in a ‘visibly distressed state’.

She appeared happy and health several weeks later as she spent time with her Packed to the Rafters co-star Hugh Sheridan.
